Students studying science, technology,\nengineering, and mathematics (STEM) across the globe will meet aviation\nprofessionals and learn about the aerospace industry and STEM concepts and\ncareers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to continue to reach out to youth in their areas of\ninterest,\u201d said Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen. \u201cThe Airport Design\nChallenges does this by combining gaming and aviation to develop our leaders of\ntomorrow.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the competition, students collaborate in small teams\nto learn about their local airports and to complete developmental tasks in\nMinecraft. They participate in organized lesson plans covering topics ranging\nfrom airport layout, pavement and lighting to structures and innovative growth.\nProgram facilitators, including over 150 FAA employees, will use weekly\nknowledge-check quizzes and screenshots of students\u2019 designs to assess progress\nand provide feedback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA encourages both U.S. and international students to participate in this virtual event. Last year, approximately 800 students took part.
