Department of Transportation&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Division of Aviation<\/a> recently awarded $3,000 grants to 10 airports to assist with hosting aviation and aerospace-themed summer academies for middle and high school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rapid growth of the aerospace and unmanned aircraft\nsystem sectors offers many job opportunities for North Carolinians in the\naerospace field. The 2023 Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy Grant Program\naims to inspire and expose the next generation of talent to those careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following airports were awarded ACE Academy grants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Currituck County Regional Airport in Currituck\nCounty;<\/li><li>Curtis L. Brown, Jr. Field in Bladen County;<\/li><li>Fayetteville Regional Airport in Cumberland\nCounty;<\/li><li>Henderson-Oxford Airport in Granville County and\nTriangle North Executive Airport in Franklin County will partner to host an\nacademy;<\/li><li>Kinston Regional Jetport in Lenoir County;<\/li><li>Smith Reynolds Airport in Forsyth County;<\/li><li>Statesville Regional Airport in Iredell County;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington-Warren Airport in Beaufort County, which will offer\ntwo camps, with one focused on traditional aviation and another on drones; and\nWilmington International Airport in New Hanover County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academy topics include aviation history, career discovery\nand planning, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, or drones). Academies feature\nvarious activities, such as hands-on drone and airplane flight simulations and\ntrips to aerospace fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academies prioritize exploring high-demand aviation and\naerospace careers, such as manned and unmanned aircraft pilots, aircraft\ntechnicians, electronics, including coding and programming, avionics, air\ntraffic controllers and engineers. Academies will also explore how students can\ngain education and credentials through North Carolina&#8217;s community college and\nuniversity programs to pursue those professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents and students interested in participating in this year&#8217;s ACE Academies can learn more by visiting the NCDOT website and searching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/aviation-business-development\/Pages\/aviation-career-education-academies.aspx\">ACE Academies<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The N.C.
