The National Association of State Aviation Officials\n(NASAO), in partnership with National Aeronautic Association (NAA), announced\nthe names of winners of the 2023 U.S. Youth Aviation Art Contest. The judging\nwas conducted by representatives from: You Can Fly, the Aircraft Owners &\nPilots Association (AOPA) Foundation; American Society of Aviation Artists\n(ASAA); NAA; NASAO; Signature Flight Support and the Smithsonian Air and Space\nMuseum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd Place Senior Category: Audrey Song \u2013 North Carolina <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This year, NASAO received over 150 pieces of art from 20\nparticipating states. National winners included students from Kansas and New\nJersey, with two students being recognized from Arizona, North Carolina and\nVirginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s really great to see two Virginia students being\nrecognized at the national level for their artistic talent,” said Greg\nCampbell, director of the Virginia Department of Aviation. “The\ninternational aviation art contest was created to help inspire young people,\nbut the quality of their artwork actually inspires all of us in the aviation\ncommunity! We wish them well at the international level of judging.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bobby Walston, NCDOT Division of Aviation Director, said\nthey’re pleased that two talented young artists are receiving the recognition\nthey deserve at the national level and equally delighted to have such\nwidespread participation in their state competition \u2013 nearly 1,500 entries\nthis year. “Our goal with this contest is to expose young people to the\nworld of aviation and hopefully inspire some of them to pursue aviation\ncareers. The inspiring work of these two students and others will surely do\nthat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd Place Intermediate: Tongfei Karen Ji \u2013 Virginia <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The annual contest is part of a larger international effort\nto inspire youth to illustrate the importance of aviation through art. Contest\nsubmissions were grouped into three separate age categories for judging,\nallowing students ranging from 6 \u2013 17 years old to compete. The 2023 theme was\n\u201cAir Sports and the Environment\u201d which encouraged students to create inspirational\nartwork, showcasing how aviation can be a catalyst to protect the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To qualify for the national contest, all artwork was first\nsubmitted into state-level competitions, with the winning entries advancing for\nnational consideration. The national winners have been submitted for the 2023\nInternational Aviation Art Contest, which will be judged in June by the\nF\u00e9d\u00e9ration A\u00e9ronautique Internationale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
