The three-day conference brought together airport\ndirectors and managers, commissioners, government officials, consultants,\nairport partners, aviation enthusiasts and industry leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference theme was \u201cNavigating the Future\u201d and covered\nindustry trends, state and federal updates, project showcases, networking and\ninnovation from corporate partners. The education sessions included FAA and\nSouth Carolina Aeronautics Commission updates, an economic development case\nstudy from Georgetown County, airport development updates and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Coward-Hall-of-fame-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24999\" width=\"229\" height=\"346\"\/><figcaption><em> The Honorable Ira Ellis &#8220;Bid&#8221; Coward, II was inducted into the SC Aviation Hall of Fame as an Elite Aviator on February 16, 2023. He is pictured at right with his award, presented by Terry Connorton, SCAA Past President. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference\u2019s Hall of Fame Banquet saw the induction of\ntwo individuals into the South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame. The Honorable\nIra Ellis \u201cBud\u201d Coward, II and retired Col. (ret.) Michael Miller were\ninducted. To be considered for the Hall of Fame, nominees must make a\nsubstantial contribution to aviation, performed with a high degree of\nexcellence, above and beyond the nominee\u2019s vocation or political position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two prestigious awards were presented during the conference.\nThe Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Joe Frasher, retired Director of\nthe Greenville Downtown Airport and The Order of the Palmetto was given to\nJames D. Stephens, Director of the Greenville Downtown Airport. Stephens\u2019 award\nwas presented by the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC) Chairman,\nDelphin A. Gantt, Jr. and given to him for his efforts in promoting aviation\nfor the state as the Executive Director of the SCAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The association raised more than $12,000 for its Scholarship\nFund during the conference from a silent auction and golf program. The SCAA\nScholarship Fund is committed to furthering aviation by providing financial\nassistance to South Carolina residents pursuing a career in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/00-Miller-Hall-of-Fame-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25000\" width=\"232\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/00-Miller-Hall-of-Fame-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/00-Miller-Hall-of-Fame-edit-256x300.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><figcaption><em>Retired US Air Force Col. Not only was\nthe attendance exceptional, but the educational discussions and impactful\ninteractions among the attendees made it a complete success,\u201d stated Kevin\nHowell, South Carolina Aviation Association President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The South Carolina Aviation Association plans to host its\nnext Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, February 14-16, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SCAA actively promotes and encourages aviation and airport\ndevelopment to meet air transportation needs and assist the state in achieving\neconomic development goals.
