Scott Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24977\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NAHF-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1986 by famed research test pilot, the late A.\nScott Crossfield, the award is a juried competition open to educators from\ngrades kindergarten through twelfth grade in a public, private, parochial,\ncharter school, or homeschool setting. Nominees can also be teachers in\nnon-traditional learning environments. Nominations will be examined by a review\ncommittee of aerospace and education professionals for documentation of each\nnominee&#8217;s effectiveness, creativity, and ability to maintain high standards for\ntheir students and themselves, with aerospace being the core subject matter of\ntheir curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott Crossfield (1921-2006) was inducted into the NAHF in\n1983 in recognition of his contributions as a naval aviator, aerospace\nengineer, and test pilot. Crossfield established the award to recognize\ndedicated and talented aerospace educators who; set high standards for students\nand demand excellence in performance; strive to improve their personal academic\ncompetence and teaching ability; perform their teaching duties in an exemplary\nmanner, resulting in true learning by students; demonstrate creativity in\ndeveloping and utilizing materials to enhance the teaching of aerospace;\nmaximize student involvement and gear activities to improve learning or create\nand have developed a one-time project or program of such significance that it\nhas a major impact on the teaching of aerospace education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crossfield Aerospace Educator of the Year will receive\ntheir recognition in conjunction with the NAHF&#8217;s annual Enshrinement Dinner\n&amp; Ceremony to be held the weekend of September 22nd in Washington, DC. The\naward will be presented by a NAHF Enshrinee. Presenters since Crossfield\u2019s\npassing include Major General Joe Engle, USAF (Ret), Captain Robert \u201cHoot\u201d Gibson,\nUSN (Ret), and Major General Charles Bolden, USMC (Ret).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 Teacher of the Year was Jill Weaver a middle school\nteacher at Valley View Junior High in Dayton, Ohio. The successful nomination\nwas submitted by Colonel Joseph Kittinger, USAF (Ret), a 1994 Enshrinee of the\nNAHF who passed away this year. Col. Kittinger, a personal friend of Scott\nCrossfield, promised to carry on \u201cScotty\u2019s Legacy\u201d of recognizing the most\nimpactful aerospace educators in the nation. Kittinger said, \u201cMrs. Weaver has\ndedicated her career to promoting STEM objectives to her students. Because of\nher advocacy, she has been awarded over $250,000 in grants to finance STEM\nprograms for her students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenny Michael, a former Valley View Board of Education member, said, \u201cJill epitomizes what great hands-on education can do for student achievement.
