{"id":24824,"date":"2023-02-17T01:12:46","date_gmt":"2023-02-17T01:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=24824"},"modified":"2023-02-17T01:12:47","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T01:12:47","slug":"phoenix-sky-harbor-sets-record-for-busiest-day-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/arizona\/phoenix-sky-harbor-sets-record-for-busiest-day-ever\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix Sky Harbor Sets Record for Busiest Day Ever"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Monday, February 13, marked a milestone day for America\u2019s\nFriendliest Airport\u00ae as more than 200,000 visitors came through the Airport.\nThis is the single busiest day in Phoenix Sky Harbor International\u2019s history.\nThe Airport, which served more than 44 million passengers in 2022, has an\naverage of 120,000 passengers come through its doors on an average day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"207\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aircraft-waiting-for-takeoff-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aircraft-waiting-for-takeoff-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Aircraft-waiting-for-takeoff-edit-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSuper Bowl LVII set records across the City of Phoenix, and\nthat could not be more evident than at our airport,\u201d said Phoenix Mayor Kate\nGallego. \u201cThese numbers speak to the appeal of Phoenix and Arizona as a\ndestination for high caliber events. Our airport is our front door, and I\ncouldn\u2019t be more proud of the work that went in to preparing for these\nrecord-breaking numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was the fourth time Phoenix Sky Harbor International\nAirport welcomed visitors to the area for the Big Game. Planning began more\nthan a year ago as the Airport worked closely with the airlines, Transportation\nSecurity Administration (TSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), law\nenforcement, concessionaires, and the Super Bowl Host Committee to prepare.\nCombined with the Super Bowl, the Valley of the Sun also welcomed visitors\ncoming in for the W.M. Phoenix Open golf tournament. This resulted in the\nsignificant influx of passengers coming through Airport facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, Phoenix Sky Harbor saw the following on Monday,\nFebruary 13:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1,691 takeoffs and landings \u2013 compared to 1,200\non an average day<\/li><li>No wait time at the TSA security checkpoints was\nmore than 22 minutes<\/li><li>90,244 passengers screened including charter and\nprivate aircraft operations. Of this, TSA screened 83,914 passengers through\ntheir checkpoints, making PHX the busiest airport in the nation.<\/li><li>47,206 total checked bags including terminal and\ncharter operations<\/li><li>2,132 bags checked using the Early Bag Check\nservice<\/li><li>More than 9,100 rental car returns and more than\n5,600 rental car pick-ups<\/li><li>Nearly 50,000 people rode the PHX Sky Train\u00ae<\/li><li>1,367 total taxi operations (pickups and drop\noffs)<\/li><li>23,657 total rideshare operations (pickups and\ndrop offs)<\/li><li>313 business\/corporate flight operations\n(arrivals and departures)<\/li><li>12 charter operations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Many airport partners brought in additional staff just for\nthe event. The TSA also brought in extra K-9 teams to assist with security\nscreening. And, there were extra volunteers on hand as well. More than 80\nvolunteer Navigators and Navigator Buddy therapy dog teams were in the\nterminals. There were also 45 volunteers from the Super Bowl Host Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHX-Sky-Train-and-Jets-edit-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24827\" width=\"325\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHX-Sky-Train-and-Jets-edit-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHX-Sky-Train-and-Jets-edit-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Phoenix\u2019s general aviation airports were also busy.&nbsp; At Phoenix Deer Valley Airport, they had 135\naircraft come in for the Big Game. On Monday, there were 91 operations. At\nPhoenix Goodyear Airport, they had 130 aircraft come in for the Super Bowl, and\ntotal operations for Monday was 137.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe received a tremendous amount of positive feedback from\ntravelers about their experience,\u201d said Director of Aviation Services Chad\nMakovsky. \u201cAs America\u2019s Friendliest Airport\u00ae, we take great pride in ensuring\nour passengers have a warm, welcoming, and positive experience. We\u2019re\nconstantly working to enhance our facilities to meet the evolving needs of our\ncustomers when traveling through our Airport.
