{"id":24578,"date":"2023-01-22T16:00:54","date_gmt":"2023-01-22T16:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=24578"},"modified":"2023-01-22T16:01:38","modified_gmt":"2023-01-22T16:01:38","slug":"cottonwood-airport-named-arizonas-airport-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/arizona\/cottonwood-airport-named-arizonas-airport-of-the-year\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Cottonwood Airport Named Arizona\u2019s Airport of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Proactive programs related to noise and other projects,\nincluding runway improvements, helped lift Cottonwood Airport to an award as\nthe state\u2019s Airport of the Year for 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Arizona Department of Transportation\u2019s Aeronautics Group\ncited the Cottonwood Airport\u2019s community efforts as a key reason for the honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cottonwood Airport Manager Jeff Tripp said recent\naccomplishments included the airport\u2019s noise abatement program. The program has\nreduced noise complaints from the public and increased public support for the\nfacility, according to Tripp. He added that Cottonwood Airport staff developed\nand implemented a noise abatement program to update and modify practices to\nhelp mitigate aircraft noise to the greatest extent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport also developed a monthly airport operations\nnoise abatement report for the public, the city\u2019s airport commission, the city\nmanager\u2019s office as well as the Cottonwood city council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cottonwood Airport\u2019s community outreach, implementation of\naction items in its noise mitigation plan and support for a local youth program,\nwere key reasons Cottonwood earned the Airport of the Year award, according to\nMatthew Munden, ADOT\u2019s aeronautics group manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Experimental Aircraft Association\u2019s Young Eagles youth\nprogram has allowed young people and their parents to become more aware of the\nCottonwood Airport and the benefits it provides to the community, according to\nMunden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport and Cottonwood\u2019s Public Works Department\ncollaborated to complete crack sealing of the taxiway and work on other\nfacilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first time Cottonwood Airport has been named the state\u2019s Airport of the Year. It is one of 67 airports across Arizona that are publicly owned and publicly operated. <a href=\"https:\/\/azdot.gov\/planning\/airport-development\">ADOT\u2019s Aeronautics Group<\/a> works to disperse grant funding to eligible capital improvement projects at state airports. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Proactive programs related to noise and other projects, including runway improvements, helped lift Cottonwood Airport to an award as the state\u2019s Airport of the Year for 2022.
