This was the first in-person WRP Principals\u2019 Meeting since November 2019 and was considered a great success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the meeting, Principals were updated on accomplishments detailed in the 2022 report on Building Resilience in the West for America\u2019s Defense, Energy, Environment and Infrastructure through Enhanced Collaboration. The bulk of the meeting was focused on the WRP\u2019s deep-dives through a number of plenary sessions including the Resiliency of Airspace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"344\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/WRP-Airspace-Panel-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WRP-Airspace-Panel-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WRP-Airspace-Panel-edit-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption> <em>From left are Rob Lowe, FAA Regional Administrator,&nbsp;Col. Roche, Senior Military Representative to the FAA, HAF\/A3OJ.&nbsp;<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel noted the WRP Region arguably has the most complex\nand busiest airspace in the nation and highlighted DoD aviation readiness\nrequirements; Integration of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the NAS; and\nCounter UAS State and Federal policy.&nbsp;\nThis panel was moderated by Mr. Rob Lowe, Regional Administrator, FAA,\nSouthwest Region, and speakers: included: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mr. Lorne Cass, Former Member and current\nsubject-matter-expert for the Advanced Aviation Advisory Committee (AAAC) <\/li><li>Col. (Ret.) Stephen \u201cLux\u201d Luxion, Executive\nDirector, ASSURE (Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research\nExcellence)<\/li><li>Ms. Jennifer Roberson, Deputy Director, Office\nof National Security and Incident Response, Security and Hazardous Materials\nSafety Organization at Federal Aviation Administration, and <\/li><li>Colonel (USAF) Geoffrey J. Roche, Senior\nMilitary Representative to the FAA, HAF\/A3OJ.&nbsp;\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Outcomes of the WRP Resiliency of Airspace Chapter in the\n2022 Report were also summarized, and included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Importance of working together and identifying\nneeds<\/li><li>Technology is a great enabler (communications,\nawareness, etc.)<\/li><li>Use of airspace has changed, more demands by diverse\nstakeholders and platforms<\/li><li>Policies are changing but technology is faster<\/li><li>Dynamically managed airspace<\/li><li>Integration is robust<\/li><li>Aviation spectrum needs<\/li><li>Safety is most important<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>WRP Co-Chairs Mr. Ron Tickle, Deputy Assistant Secretary of\nDefense for Real Property, and Mr. Gary Harter, Executive Director, Utah\nDepartment of Veterans &amp; Military Affairs (representing the Honorable\nSpencer Cox, Governor of Utah), welcomed the 137 senior policy-level leaders\nand supporting staff in attendance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senior leaders from state, federal and Tribal agencies gathered December 8-9 for the 2022 Western Regional Partnership\u2019s (WRP) Principals\u2019 Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.
