Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, America\u2019s\nFriendliest Airport\u00ae, has set another milestone with Waymo launching fully\nautonomous vehicle service to the general public at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Phoenix\nMayor Kate Gallego arrived at the 44th Street and Washington PHX Sky Train\u00ae\nStation via a Waymo vehicle to launch the new service. This set a global\nmilestone as Phoenix Sky Harbor became the first airport in the world to offer\ntravelers the ability to take a Waymo autonomous vehicle as a means of\ntransportation to and from the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPhoenix is leading the future of mobility and modernizing\nhow the world will experience travel,\u201d said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. \u201cThe\nexciting technology offers our customers an additional option for traveling to\nthe airport in a clean, sustainable, and technologically advanced mode of\ntransportation. The future has arrived in Phoenix!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waymo also announced today it is more than doubling the\nWaymo One service area in Downtown Phoenix. The expansion connects the airport\nservice to a large swath of the downtown area, offering safe and convenient\nmobility options to Phoenicians and travelers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early November, Waymo began offering its Trusted Tester\nparticipants the opportunity to take autonomous rides to and from downtown\nPhoenix and the Airport with an autonomous specialist in the vehicle. Now,\nWaymo has removed the autonomous specialist from the vehicle and anyone can\nhail a Waymo to ride between the airport and downtown Phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rides are available 24 hours, seven days a week in Waymo\u2019s\nfully electric Jaguar I-PACE equipped with the fifth generation Waymo Driver.\nPickups and drop-offs occur at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train\u00ae Station where\ntravelers can hop on the free PHX Sky Train\u00ae direct to the terminals. Trains\narrive and depart every few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new service comes two years after Waymo opened its\nfully autonomous commercial ride-hailing service, Waymo One, to the public in\nthe East Valley of Phoenix; and builds on the company\u2019s strong partnership with\nthe City of Phoenix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
