At age 1 \u00c2\u00bd, George was strapped into a Cessna 172 alongside his father in what would be an inauguration to a lifetime of defying the earthly bonds of gravity. By age 5, he took his first formal flight lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/George-Charles-Allen-Photo-at-ERAU-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24244\" width=\"246\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/George-Charles-Allen-Photo-at-ERAU-edit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/George-Charles-Allen-Photo-at-ERAU-edit-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/George-Charles-Allen-Photo-at-ERAU-edit-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/George-Charles-Allen-Photo-at-ERAU-edit-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><figcaption><em>George Charles Allen<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A short twenty-two years later, after traveling abroad and\nstudying philosophy in one of Scotland\u2019s ancient universities, the\nphilosophical son returned to open a flight academy alongside his father where\nhe would take wing as a second-generation aviation educator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an educator, George infuses subtle humor, rugged realism,\nand pragmatic philosophy\u2014the Socratic method and stoicism\u2014while cultivating his\naviators-in-training with genuine stick and rudder flying, seat-of-the-pants\nenergy management, and \u2018calmfident\u2019 decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a leader, his family-owned AeroVenture has won more than\n15 national and regional awards for their dedication and service to the flight\ntraining industry and remains the only school twice awarded distinction as\nNational Best Flight School by The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association\n(AOPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, George was bestowed the Dr. Wendell G. Mohling\nOutstanding Aerospace Educator Award for leadership excellence in the field of\naerospace education presented by the National Science Teachers Association\n(NSTA)\u2014the largest professional science organization in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George is also a recipient of the Civil Air Patrol\u2019s Charles\nE. \u2018Chuck\u2019 Yeager Aerospace Education Award for excellence in educating the\ngeneral public about the knowledge and skills required for understanding and\nadvancing aerospace activities and the total impact of air and space technology\nupon society.&nbsp; In addition, he was duly\nelected Member of the British Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) based in London\u2014the\noldest aeronautical society in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He formerly served as a member of the AOPA Flight Training\nAdvisory Board, Vice Chair of the Flight School Association of North America&#8217;s\n(FSANA) Aircraft Manufacturers Committee and has presented at and moderated\nseveral national symposia. George also served on the board of various nonprofit\narts and cultural organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George holds honors degrees in classics and philosophy from\nClark University and The University of Edinburgh, and a master&#8217;s in aeronautics\nand space science\u2014with distinction\u2014from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When not flying his classroom in the sky, George can be\nfound on the world\u2019s stage as a competitive chess player, keeping up his other\ninstrument rating as a classical pianist, reading voraciously, translating\nPlato from Ancient Greek, authoring works of literature and philosophy, and\nseeking nautical adventures along the rocky coasts of New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allen said, \u201cI am incredibly excited and thankful for the\nopportunity to serve NAFI&#8217;s distinguished members. Since my youth NAFI has been\na household name as my father \u2014 a full-time flight instructor \u2014 was a member.\nNever did I imagine one day I would work alongside such an inspiring and\nthought-provoking team of industry-leading aviators whose core ethos is to vigorously\nand conscientiously raise the bar for aviation safety, professionalism, and\neducation. As aviation educators, we are vanguards of transformation at every\nflight level. Together we can develop strategies to bridge the talent gap and\ncontinually aspire to a higher quality of education, training, and prestige in\nthe industry while significantly bolstering the ranks of general aviation and\nbeyond with pilots trained by enthusiastic teachers and ambassadors. We don\u2019t\njust need more CFIs \u2014 we need impassioned CFIs who feel valued and respected\nfor the professionals they are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karen Kalishek, NAFI\u2019s Chair, added &#8220;George Allen is an\nexcellent addition to NAFI\u2019s Board of Directors. His business acumen,\ncommitment to excellence in aviation education, organizational development\nskills, and prior experience have all combined to make George an immediately\nproductive Board member.
