{"id":24142,"date":"2022-11-27T16:03:01","date_gmt":"2022-11-27T16:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=24142"},"modified":"2022-11-27T16:03:02","modified_gmt":"2022-11-27T16:03:02","slug":"weatherford-stafford-regional-airport-opens-new-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/oklahoma\/weatherford-stafford-regional-airport-opens-new-terminal\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Weatherford Stafford Regional Airport Opens New Terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Weatherford Stafford Regional Airport hosted a\nribbon-cutting ceremony in front of a large crowd of local community members\nand aviation enthusiasts on Tuesday, November 22, in honor of the airport\u2019s new\nterminal building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $1.6 million project began in December of 2021 and took\nnearly 11 months to complete.&nbsp;&nbsp; The new\nterminal building was necessary because the current building, attached to the\nStafford Air and Space Museum, would not accommodate the increasing air traffic\nthat the airport was experiencing. The improvements will provide visiting\npilots and passengers with a grand new entryway as they fly into Weatherford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Jim Inhofe, serving as the keynote said, \u201cI am proud\nto help dedicate Weatherford\u2019s new terminal, which will be a significant asset\nfor the surrounding region. Already home to a first-class air and space museum,\nWeatherford is a growing community because of its forward-thinking policies and\nprime location in western Oklahoma. This new terminal will empower economic\ndevelopment, support jobs and grow workforce opportunities as it draws new\nbusinesses to the area for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Inhofe led the ceremonial ribbon cutting signifying\nthe optimistic future of both the Weatherford Stafford Regional Airport and the\nCity of Weatherford.&nbsp; In addition to\ncutting the ribbon on the new terminal, this event allowed pilots and aviation\nenthusiasts alike an opportunity to provide the Senator with a collective thank\nyou from the industry and a warm sendoff as his final term as US Senator comes\nto a close. Since the community\u2019s founding, civic\nleaders and citizens have dedicated their resources and time to invest in\npro-growth projects. This airport has become a symbol of the character and\nintegrity that embodies the Oklahoma standard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project would not have been possible without the\nleadership of the City of Weatherford, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, and\nthe FAA working together to find a funding solution to complete such a critical\nproject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Aeronautics Commission is proud to use this special\nribbon cutting in Weatherford as a moment to commemorate the service of Senator\nJim Inhofe to the aviation community in Oklahoma.&nbsp; Working with Mayor Mike Brown, General Tom Stafford,\nand others on this project has been one of the most rewarding experiences. They\nknow the importance of aviation and infrastructure and how an airport terminal\nplays into the bigger picture of community economic enhancement,\u201d said\nAeronautics Commission Director Grayson Ardies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Weatherford is an important economic hub in western Oklahoma\nas evidenced by the airport\u2019s $6.3M in annual economic impact and 4 based jets.\nAlthough several local maintenance shops call the airport home the main\nattraction is the world-class Stafford Air and Space Museum which sits on\nairport property. General Stafford has made the museum a key component over the\nyears to help inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals.
