The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today\nwelcomed the Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s (FAA\u2019s) direct final rule to\nextend the duration of aircraft registration certificates from three to seven\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe applaud the FAA for hearing our concerns over the\ncurrent requirements and making this change,\u201d said NBAA Director of Flight\nOperations and Regulations Brian Koester. \u201cThe new rule comes with tangible\nbenefits that will help drive convenience and efficiency for business aircraft\nowners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The policy change, which was required by the 2018 FAA\nReauthorization Act, provides two types of relief for aircraft owners. First,\nthe change to a seven-year registration period will greatly reduce the number\nof applications for ownership renewals awaiting FAA approval at any given time,\nthereby drawing down the agency\u2019s administrative burden, and expediting the\napproval of renewals. Second, the rule expands authority for aircraft owners to\noperate beyond the registration renewal date from 90 days following expiration\nto 12 months \u2013 a timeframe that should cover any renewal delays stemming from\nagency backlogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rule expected to take effect in 60 days. The change will apply to all aircraft currently registered under existing FAA regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
