The 1.2 million square foot facility incorporates\nIndustry 4.0 standards, featuring highly automated manufacturing to improve\nsafety, quality, productivity, and cost in support of high-volume programs,\nincluding the Pratt &amp; Whitney GTF\u2122 and F135 engines, for decades to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"309\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/AshevillePW-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24050\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/AshevillePW-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/AshevillePW-edit-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption><em>Pratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s new state-of-the-art turbine airfoil production facility in Asheville, NC. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Production in Asheville will complement existing turbine\nairfoil work that is currently done across Pratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s facilities.\nThe facility will house an advanced casting foundry and conduct machining,\ncoating and finishing of airfoils onsite. Within the first year of production,\nthe facility will have 100% connected machines and digital information flow for\nemployees. The $650 million investment is also expected to create 800 new jobs\nthrough 2027, and to date, the majority of the current 150 positions have been\nfilled by local hires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2021, Pratt &amp; Whitney broke ground on the new\nfacility, holding a last beam ceremony in January 2022, and marking \u2018power on\u2019\nin July. Today, another milestone was reached as employees, the business\ncommunity and elected officials, including North Carolina\u2019s Governor Roy Cooper\nand Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders, gathered to officially cut the\nribbon for the new facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pratt-and-Whitney-Ribbon-Cutting-6-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24051\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pratt-and-Whitney-Ribbon-Cutting-6-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pratt-and-Whitney-Ribbon-Cutting-6-edit-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption><em>Pratt &amp; Whitney leaders celebrate the conclusion of major construction at its new facility. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s new Asheville facility is a\ncornerstone of our industrial transformation and a key investment that will\nsupport growing demand for GTF engine-powered aircraft and for the F135 engine,\nwhich powers the F-35 Lightning II,\u201d said Shane Eddy, president, Pratt &amp;\nWhitney. \u201cIt represents the harmonized execution of our CORE Operating System\nand fully integrated Industry 4.0 capabilities designed around our people and\nprocesses that add value to our products. It\u2019s an honor to celebrate the ribbon\ncutting of this facility in the state that was first in flight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGlobal companies like Pratt &amp; Whitney can choose to locate\nanywhere, but they know they\u2019ve made the smart move with North Carolina,\u201d North\nCarolina Governor Roy Cooper said. \u201cThis investment will strengthen our state\u2019s\nmanufacturing industry, bringing good paying jobs to Buncombe County for years\nto come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s new facility is the largest\nmanufacturing project we\u2019ve seen in the western part of our state,\u201d said North\nCarolina Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders. \u201cOur state ranks as\nnumber one for manufacturing in the Southeast, and we\u2019re excited to add Pratt\n&amp; Whitney to the family of world-class manufacturers that call North\nCarolina home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe County Commissioners are excited to see this historic\nproject move forward. Our support for the Pratt &amp; Whitney project is all\nabout improving the opportunities for workers in western North Carolina.
