Department of Transportation\u2019s Division of Aviation is accepting applications from public airports through Jan. 30 for its 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/aviation-business-development\/Pages\/aviation-career-education-academies.aspx\">Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy<\/a> Grant Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program supports aviation workforce development with\ngrants of up to $3,000 per academy to host aviation career-focused summer\nacademies for middle and high school students that inspire and engage the next\ngeneration of talent. Academies must host a minimum of 30 students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Walston-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24012\"\/><figcaption><em>Bobby Walston<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is tremendous need to develop the workforce in the transportation industry,\u201d said NCDOT Director of Aviation Bobby Walston. \u201cInstilling a passion for aviation and aerospace in our youth will ensure that we develop a strong talent pipeline to sustain and grow this important sector and provide jobs for our people and communities.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Topics can include aviation history, career discovery and\nplanning and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, or drones). Academies should place\na priority on exploring high-demand aviation and aerospace careers, such as\nmanned and unmanned aircraft pilots, aircraft technicians, electronics\n(including coding and programming), avionics, air traffic controllers and\nengineers. Academies will also explore how students can gain education and\ncredentials through North Carolina\u2019s community college and university programs\nto pursue those professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All 72 North Carolina public-use airports eligible for\ninfrastructure development grant funding from NCDOT are eligible for this\nprogram.
