Challenger Center<\/a> and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics<\/a> (AIAA) announced they are accepting nominations for the 2023 Trailblazing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Educator Award<\/a>. The annual award celebrates K-12 teachers going above and beyond to inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators. Nominations can be submitted to aiaa.org\/TrailblazingSTEMEducatorAward<\/a> through December 15, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three winners will be selected from the nominations. Each\nwinner and their respective school or organization will be awarded $5,000 each\nand receive free access to Challenger Center\u2019s STEM education programs, along\nwith a trip to Washington, DC, to be honored at the 2023 AIAA Awards Gala, as\nwell as a special presentation ceremony at their school. The winners also will\nhave the opportunity to attend a space launch experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday\u2019s students are tomorrow\u2019s STEM explorers and\ninnovators. But first, we must ignite and foster their interest. Teachers are\nthe catalyst for nurturing that potential,\u201d said Lance Bush, president and CEO\nof Challenger Center. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to partner with AIAA to recognize our\ncountry\u2019s most inspiring STEM education trailblazers\u2014teachers who are going\nabove and beyond to bring STEM experiences to life for their students and get\nthem excited for the world of possibilities that STEM careers offer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEducators are invaluable to our communities. We share a\ncommitment with Challenger Center to support trailblazing educators because\nthey are the link and clear force multiplier to inspiring our future\nworkforce,\u201d said Dan Dumbacher, executive director, AIAA. \u201cWe need a diverse\nand robust STEM next generation who use what they learn today to innovate and\ninvent tomorrow. We can\u2019t wait to recognize passionate and inspirational\neducators who spark students\u2019 interest in STEM subjects, especially the science\nand engineering behind aerospace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award was launched in 2021 and first presented in 2022<\/a> to recognize teachers who connect classroom lessons to the country\u2019s current and future plans of STEM exploration and innovation, introduce students to STEM careers, and activate students\u2019 imagination about space exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. aerospace and defense industry leads the world in\ninnovation, while still facing challenges of staffing a properly skilled and\nqualified workforce. Crucial gaps in diversity, equity, and inclusion must be\naddressed \u2013 more STEM-literate graduates are needed, greater participation is\nneeded by women and ethnic minorities, and early retirements are creating a\ngrowing knowledge gap.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
