{"id":23614,"date":"2022-10-03T22:04:35","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T22:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=23614"},"modified":"2022-10-03T22:04:37","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T22:04:37","slug":"nbaa-senate-testimony-details-promise-plan-for-advanced-air-mobilitys-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aam-uam\/nbaa-senate-testimony-details-promise-plan-for-advanced-air-mobilitys-future\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Senate Testimony Details Promise, Plan for Advanced Air Mobility\u2019s Future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) last week outlined\nfor U.S. Senate leaders both the promise of advanced air mobility (AAM), and a\nplan for supporting policies to help the pioneering technology fully take\nflight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce,\nScience and Transportation\u2019s Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations and\nInnovation, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen explained the key benefits of AAM,\nincluding job creation and economic growth, sustainability, accessibility and\nnational security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdvanced air mobility represents a huge milestone in the\nevolution of on-demand air mobility,\u201d Bolen told the committee. \u201cThese\nnext-generation aircraft will provide connections that are not available\nthrough our existing aviation infrastructure, allowing us to address challenges\nwith congested metropolitan areas, provide additional relief in the aftermath\nof natural disasters, increase access for rural and mid-sized communities and\nlink the remote spokes of cargo and supply chain networks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results of a recent Deloitte study highlight the potential\neconomic impact of the AAM market in the U.S. The firm estimates the sector\nwill generate $115 billion annually by 2035 and create more than 280,000\nhigh-paying jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bolen noted that the leaders guiding NBAA\u2019s recently formed\nAdvanced Air Mobility Roundtable understand the technology\u2019s promise, and are\nengaged with government stakeholders to make it a reality. The roundtable\nserves as a forum for original equipment manufacturers and others developing\nelectric vertical takeoff and landing transport vehicles to work with\npolicymakers on decisions regarding airport access, airspace management, local\ncommunity engagement and other priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bolen urged lawmakers to prioritize AAM in the upcoming\nFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization process. He outlined four\nkey needs to ensure U.S. leadership in AAM implementation, which are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ensure transparency and certainty in the\nregulatory process, including a commitment to deliver the powered lift Special\nFederal Aviation Regulation by 2024.<\/li><li>Develop a national strategy to coordinate AAM\nintegration at the federal, state and local levels to include AAM demonstration\ncities modeled after the UAS Pilot Program. <\/li><li>Provide continued investment in aviation\ninfrastructure and other assets that will promote the manufacture, availability\nand use of these world-leading technologies, as contained in S. 4246, or HR\n6270, The Advanced Aviation Infrastructure Modernization (AAIM) Act.<\/li><li>Preserve congressional oversight of the nation\u2019s\naviation system.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving congressional oversight of the NAS has always\nensured that all stakeholders are represented,\u201d Bolen concluded. \u201cAs we\nintroduce new technologies, oversight from Congress will remain critical to\nensuring America\u2019s aviation leadership across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review Bolen\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/advocacy\/testimony-archives\/20220928-NBAA-Ed-Bolen-Testimony-Senate-Subcommittee-Aviation-Safety-Operations-Innovation.pdf?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=\">full testimony<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) last week outlined for U.S. Senate leaders both the promise of advanced air mobility (AAM), and a plan for supporting policies to help the pioneering technology fully take flight.
