{"id":23610,"date":"2022-10-03T21:53:50","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T21:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=23610"},"modified":"2022-10-03T21:53:51","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T21:53:51","slug":"south-carolina-aviation-association-awards-five-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/south-carolina\/south-carolina-aviation-association-awards-five-scholarships\/%20","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina Aviation Association Awards Five Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>South Carolina Aviation Association (SCAA) has awarded five\nscholarships to South Carolinians pursuing careers in the aviation industry.\nThe five winners, Emily Apostolico, Emily Nasto, Peter O\u2019Connor, Solomon Vang,\nand Hiram Varner, each received a $1,000 award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Scholarship Winners:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily Apostolico, of Charleston, is pursuing a private pilot\nlicense. A high school senior at Charleston County School of the Arts in North\nCharleston, she plans to attend college and major in aeronautical and astronautical\nengineering. \u201cBecoming a pilot means I am one step closer to achieving my dream\nof becoming an astronaut,\u201d Apostolico said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily Nasto, of Murrells Inlet, is enrolled in the\nprofessional pilot degree program at Charleston Southern University in North\nCharleston. She intends to become a commercial pilot. \u201cIdeally, I would like to\nfly cargo internationally,\u201d said Nasto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter O\u2019Connor, of Aiken, is a student at Elizabeth City\nState University in Elizabeth City, N.C. He studies aviation science with a\nconcentration in flight education. \u201cFor as long as I can remember, I have\nwanted to fly,\u201d O\u2019Connor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solomon Vang, of Boiling Springs, is studying Aviation\nMaintenance Technology at Greenville Technical College. Vang aspires to work\nfor a commercial airline. \u201cMy goal is to finish my associates degree and\ncontribute to the workforce while earning a bachelor\u2019s degree in Aviation\nMaintenance Management,\u201d said Vang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiram Varner, of Gray Court, will attend Embry Riddle\nAeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He plans to study aerospace\nengineering. \u201cMy long-term career goal is to work at an aerospace company\ndesigning, building and testing rockets for missions beyond Earth,\u201d said\nVarner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SCAA\u2019s scholarship program is open to South Carolina residents\nwho attend, or will attend, an educational institution or flight school inside\nor outside the state. The application period for the next program cycle will\nopen in Spring 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SCAA actively promotes and encourages aviation and airport development\nto meet air transportation needs and assist the state in achieving economic\ndevelopment goals. Its membership is comprised of S.C. airports, aviation\nindustry partners and aviators across the state.
