The awards were presented recently during\nthe Illinois Public Airports Association Fall Conference in Galena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Omer-IDOT-Director-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23583\" width=\"136\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Omer-IDOT-Director-edit.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Omer-IDOT-Director-edit-213x300.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 136px) 100vw, 136px\" \/><figcaption><em>Omer Osman<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAviation is vital to our state\u2019s economy and a pillar of\nour multimodal system that makes us the North American transportation hub we\nare today,\u201d said Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. \u201cOur aviation\npartners support a variety of industries and make numerous contributions to\nenhance the quality of life in Illinois. We present these awards as tokens of\nrecognition and gratitude for their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facilities were selected because of their\naccomplishments, including an outstanding partnership with IDOT and a strong\ncommitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Among the award considerations\nare cooperation and coordination with the state, safety record, maintenance of the\nfacility, and promotion of aviation and educational events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The 2022 recipients are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Central Illinois Regional Airport, Primary\nAirport of the Year<\/li><li>DuPage Airport, Reliever Airport of the Year<\/li><li>Greater Kankakee Airport, General Aviation\nAirport of the Year (Runway greater than 5,000 feet)<\/li><li>Dixon Municipal Airport, General Aviation\nAirport of the Year (Runway less than 5,000 feet)<\/li><li>Erie Airpark, Private Airport of the Year<\/li><li>AbbVie Heliport, Heliport of the Year<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Central-Illinois-Regional-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23584\" width=\"286\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Central-Illinois-Regional-edit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Central-Illinois-Regional-edit-300x260.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><figcaption><em> The Central Illinois Regional Airport was recognized as the Primary Airport of the Year. Clayton Stambaugh, left, congratulates Javier Centeno.  <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Illinois is home to 100 public-use airports and heliports,\nwith nearly 3,000 aircraft registered with the Federal Aviation Administration.\nThe system of airports supports more than 492,000 jobs, with a combined payroll\nof $21.9 billion and a total economic impact of $95.4 billion. Across the\nstate, there are over 700 aviation facilities, including heliports, balloon,\nglider and ultra-light landing facilities, and grass landing strips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Gov. Pritzker\u2019s historic, bipartisan Rebuild\nIllinois capital program, IDOT is investing a total of $150 million in\naviation. Last year, the governor announced a $94 million commitment to\nairports throughout the state, unlocking $11.5 million in local contributions\nfor a combined investment of $105 million.
