Scott Crossfield\nAerospace Educator of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jill-Weaver.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jill-Weaver.jpg 200w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jill-Weaver-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jill-Weaver-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption><em>Jill Weaver<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Crossfield Award, founded in 1986 by NAHF Enshrinee\nScott Crossfield, is a juried annual competition to recognize a teacher for his\nor her exemplary use of aerospace in their classroom curricula. Crossfield, who\nwas inducted in 1983, was a renowned test pilot, research pilot, and aerospace\nresearcher. Among a myriad of aviation \u201cfirsts,\u201d Crossfield\u2019s testing of\npressurized suits led to the development of the space suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful nomination was submitted by Colonel Joseph\nKittinger, USAF (Ret), a 1994 Enshrinee of the NAHF. Col. Kittinger, a personal\nfriend of Scott Crossfield, promised to carry on \u201cScotty\u2019s Legacy\u201d of\nrecognizing the most impactful aerospace educators in the nation. Kittinger\nsaid, \u201cMrs. Weaver has dedicated her career to promoting STEM objectives to her\nstudents. Because of her advocacy, she has been awarded over $250,000 in grants\nto finance STEM programs for her students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding Weaver gains have been used to support various\neducational endeavors, from robotics to remote-controlled cars, drones, and 3D\nprinters. She also earns appreciation from organizations and peers from across\nthe country. Ben Richards, Superintendent of Valley View Local School, shares\nhis support of Col. Kittinger\u2019s nomination, \u201cWhile I know that there are many\ndeserving candidates for this recognition, Jill Weaver is one of the foremost\nscience instructors that I\u2019ve encountered in my 20+ years in education. Her\npassion for science, coupled with her unwavering commitment to enriching the\nlives of her students, make her truly deserving of this award.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last two decades, Weaver has earned numerous honors\nand awards. Included in the recognition are being named the Air Force\nAssociation (AFA) Teacher of the Year (2016), Outstanding Earth Science Teacher\nAward (OESTA) (2017), Roy Junior Award for Excellence National Finalist (2019),\nTeacher of Influence Award (2021), and STEM Fellow for Montgomery County, OH\nESC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenny Michael, a former Valley View Board of Education\nmember said, \u201cJill epitomizes what great hands-on education can do for student\nachievement. In fact, she pioneers STEM education in our district, and I see\nfirsthand how much she is admired by her students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Weaver will receive her award on September 23, 2022, as part\nof the National Aviation Hall of Fame\u2019s 58th Enshrinement events. Over 600\npeople are expected to attend two days of events in Dayton, including industry\nleaders and several returning Enshrinees, including former NASA astronauts\nCharlie Bolden, Eileen Collins, Bob Crippen, and Hoot Gibson, aviation\nvisionary and test pilot Clay Lacy, general aviation titans Dale Klapmeier, and\nJohn &amp; Martha King. NAHF candidates Rhea Seddon, Ed Bolen, and Connie\nTobias will also join the celebration this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony, led by emcee CNN\u2019s Pete Muntean, features the\nformal installment of the NAHF Enshrinee Classes of 2020 and 2022; (The late)\nSecond Lieutenant Eugene J. Bullard, USAF., (The late) Dr. Maxime \u201cMax\u201d A.\nFaget, Ms. Joan Sullivan Garrett., (The late) Captain Richard \u201cDick\u201d F. Gordon,\nUSN, Colonel\/Dr. Paul G. Kaminski, USAF (Ret).
