{"id":23333,"date":"2022-09-04T00:16:34","date_gmt":"2022-09-04T00:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=23333"},"modified":"2022-09-04T00:17:55","modified_gmt":"2022-09-04T00:17:55","slug":"modernized-fuel-facility-creates-resilience-for-travel-at-san-francisco-international-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/california\/modernized-fuel-facility-creates-resilience-for-travel-at-san-francisco-international-airport\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Modernized Fuel Facility Creates Resilience for Travel at San Francisco International Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>San Francisco International Airport (SFO) leaders joined SFO\nFUEL LLC airline partners and Burns &amp; McDonnell project team members for a\nribbon-cutting to celebrate the airport\u2019s modernized jet fuel storage facility\ndesigned and built by Burns &amp; McDonnell on behalf of the airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project includes two new 90,000-barrel above-ground jet\nfuel tanks, a new pump pad, and facility controls upgrades at the existing fuel\nstorage facility. The new pump pad conveys jet fuel to the aircraft hydrant\nsystem at SFO. The facility controls systems create resilience through enhanced\nsafety and increased stability of the overall facility, and the addition of the\nnew pump pad and storage tanks provide a much-needed increase in storage and\nfuel delivery capacity. The modernized fuel facility continues to receive\nsustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a low-carbon and sustainably produced\nalternative to jet fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fuel-pump-pad-san-francisco-international-airport-SFOedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23335\" width=\"319\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fuel-pump-pad-san-francisco-international-airport-SFOedit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fuel-pump-pad-san-francisco-international-airport-SFOedit-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fuel-pump-pad-san-francisco-international-airport-SFOedit-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fuel-pump-pad-san-francisco-international-airport-SFOedit-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the two new above-ground tanks and new pumping system,\nwe have increased fuel storage capacity and we will significantly improve\nenergy efficiency and operations here at SFO,\u201d says Diane Urdiales, senior\nmanager for global sourcing at United Airlines and chair of SFO FUEL, the\nairport\u2019s fuel consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSFO is leading the revolution to decarbonization air\ntravel,\u201d says Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. \u201cThis effort requires deep\ninvestment in shared infrastructure, specifically prioritizing robust fuel\ndelivery and storage. The newly upgraded facility at SFO offers our airport\ncarriers the efficiency and resiliency we need to realize our vision for\nsustainable air transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the project began, Burns &amp; McDonnell worked with\nthe airlines and SFO FUEL to conduct a detailed analysis of the existing fuel\nstation. The study included a review of on-site and off-site storage options,\nplus evaluation of pipelines and local refineries.
