With workforce demands in all aviation industry sectors\nrising worldwide, Kansas State University Salina Aerospace and Technology\nCampus has added a bachelor’s degree in aviation management \u2014 one of the only\ncollegiate programs of its kind in the country \u2014 to ease industry needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Being employed at airports provides long, fulfilling\ncareers,” said Spencer Dickerson, a professor and aviation industry expert\nleading the new program. “There will be significant workforce\nopportunities through the entire aviation industry ecosystem to meet\nwide-ranging domestic and global challenges. This degree looks at what the\nindustry lacks currently and fulfills those needs with a capable workforce that\nwill be ready to lead.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduates of the program will be eligible for careers as\ndirector of aviation, airport director, airport manager, director of airport\noperations, director of airport security, airport chief financial officer,\ndirector of airline operations, director of fixed-base operations and many more\nrewarding opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dickerson brings many years of experience in the field. Most\nrecently, he served as senior executive vice president for global operations\nfor the American Association of Airport Executives. His experience and the\nunique format of the aviation maintenance degree support K-State Salina’s\nmission to develop global leaders and foster talent development and innovation\nin aerospace and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the program, students will learn vital STEM\nskills, business practices, policy, engineering and other skills needed to\noperate an airport. An emphasis will be on science, technology, engineering and\nmathematics classes. The degree affords students the flexibility of either\nlearning in person at the Salina campus or online. Students can choose between two\ndegree paths: taking the four-year program from K-State Salina or transferring\nin up to two years of credits from an approved outside institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are excited to offer this opportunity to\nindividuals who desire a career in the aviation industry, said Terri Gaeddert,\nK-State Salina associate dean for academics and student success. “As one\nof the only universities in the country offering such a degree, graduates will\ngain a unique advantage by having opportunities to learn from industry leaders\nand professionals, as well as take advantage of K-State Salina’s location, on\nthe former Schilling Air Force Base, and home to an active airport.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
