NASAO and FAA leadership agreed to begin work on\nfulfilling these commitments immediately, and discuss next steps at NASAO\u2019s\nupcoming Annual Convention September 10-14, 2022, in Greenville, SC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/mcclosky-anthony-125x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23315\"\/><figcaption>A<em>nthony McCloskey<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In signing on behalf of NASAO, Chair Anthony McCloskey,\nnoted that the MOU on Aviation and Space Education (AVSED) closely tracks with\nthe key priority of his term as Chair, encouraging NASAO\u2019s role in this area through\nrevitalizing the NASAO Center for Aviation Education and Research. McCloskey\nsaid, \u201cNASAO and its state agency members welcome the FAA\u2019s willingness to\nrecommit to this joint effort to promote aviation education as a path to\nrewarding and important careers. Engaging young people in aviation is critical\nto the future of the industry and America\u2019s leadership in aeronautics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greg Pecoraro, NASAO\u2019s President and CEO, observed that\nNASAO\u2019s strong partnership with the FAA and its predecessor agencies has led to\nthe safest aviation system in the world. Pecoraro said, \u201cRegularly renewing\nthis partnership is critical, especially as we look forward to exciting new\nadvances in aeronautical technologies that will revolutionize the industry and\nhow people access aviation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nolen and McCloskey renewed MOUs on a Cooperative Agreement\nbetween FAA and NASAO, AVSED and Runway Safety. The AVSED MOU commits the FAA\nand state agencies to continue working together to provide, promote, and\ncollaborate on AVSED Outreach activities across the country. In the\nupdated MOU, the agencies agreed to work collaboratively to safely integrate\nUAS and AAM activities into the National Airspace System and develop a\nframework for cooperation and collaboration. A particular focus will be on\nproviding educational outreach and subject matter expertise to the aviation\ncommunity regarding UAS and AAM operations, regulations and related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although state aviation agencies have worked closely with a\nsuccession of federal aviation agencies since Congress enacted the Air Commerce\nAct in 1926, the first formal agreement came in 1996 with the signing of an MOU\nby FAA Administrator, David Hinson, which has been periodically renewed since\nthat time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) Board Chair, Anthony McCloskey of Pennsylvania, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator, Billy Nolen, signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) detailing the partnership between the federal and state government aviation agencies.
