The Virginia Department of Aviation announced the\nrecipients of this year\u2019s Virginia Aviation Awards at the annual banquet\ndinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOAV Director Greg Campbell honored Paul Malandrino with the\nDirector\u2019s Award, Melinda Crawford as Virginia Airport Manager of the Year,\nJohn E. Potter as Virginia Aviation Person of the Year and Lt. Col. Paul Adams\nWillard II with the Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;One of the greatest honors I have as director of the\nVirginia Department of Aviation is to recognize the hard work, dedication and\ncommitment of those in the aviation profession through the Virginia Aviation\nAwards program,\u201d Campbell said.&nbsp; \u201cEach\nyear, I am simply amazed by the accomplishments of these talented individuals,\nand this year&#8217;s award winners exemplify all that is right in our industry.&nbsp; I congratulate them for their achievements,\nand I thank them for allowing us the privilege of recognizing them for their outstanding\ncontributions to aviation in Virginia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice President and Airport Manager at Ronald Reagan\nWashington National Airport, Malandrino led the airport through its biggest\nchange in 20 years by opening a new 14-gate $1 billion concourse and two new\nsecurity checkpoint buildings ahead of schedule in 2022. He led the effort in\nkeeping the traveling public safe with a variety of measures geared toward\nminimizing the impact of the COVID pandemic, including new signage, cleaning\nprotocols and immunization and testing facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/managercrawfordcampbell08152022.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23208\" width=\"245\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/managercrawfordcampbell08152022.jpg 368w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/managercrawfordcampbell08152022-300x281.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><figcaption><em>Greg Campbell with Melinda Crawford<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Director of the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport,\nCrawford led the airport through a series of significant achievements in\n2021-2022. A major commercial ramp expansion was completed that allows for\nadditional commercial aircraft parking. A taxiway was also relocated as the\nresult of this project. Four escalators in the terminal and two new elevators\nwith covered walkways will be completed in 2022. With Crawford at the helm, the\nterminal has expanded with new restrooms, a new modern TSA checkpoint and a\npassengers\u2019 lounge. She is an active member of the Virginia Airport Operating\nCouncil and is currently serving as the President. Crawford also serves as the\nVice Chairman for the Central Virginia Economic Development Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports\nAuthority since 2011, Potter has overseen Dulles and Reagan National airports\nas they have had steady growth, which has made two of America\u2019s most important\nair hubs far more competitive with other major airports. He helped lead Dulles\nand Reagan National airports through the COVID pandemic with its financial\nhealth and workforce intact. During 2021-2022, Potter led the way for important\nairport infrastructure and concession improvements to serve the traveling\npublic despite the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/lifetimewillardcampbell8152022.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23215\" width=\"272\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lifetimewillardcampbell8152022.jpg 388w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/lifetimewillardcampbell8152022-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><figcaption><em>Lt. Paul Adams Willard II, left and Greg Campbell. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Director of Aerospace Education for the Virginia Wing, Civil\nAir Patrol, Willard II has devoted his life to aviation and education and was\nrecently recognized for more than 50 years of service. Willard II began his\nCivil Air Patrol career in 1969 as a cadet and is the recipient of the highest\nawards given to a cadet and to an adult member of the Civil Air Patrol. He\nbecame a senior member and continued to support the Civil Air Patrol program\nthroughout his Air Force career and as an Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor for\n16 years.
