Meredith joins as the new airport sector leader\nfor the United States, Smejkal as senior project manager, Mariz as senior\nairport planner, and Abdallah as aviation engineering manager. Each will be\nresponsible for strengthening the services the firm provides to airports across\nthe United States and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe hustle and bustle is back at airports across North\nAmerica. He brings 35 years of experience and has\nmanaged programs at over a dozen Group V and Group VI aircraft-capable airports\n(as defined by the Federal Aviation Administration) across the United States.\nIn addition, he has extensive experience coordinating and aligning federal,\nstate, and local agencies with owners, airlines, and other stakeholders to\ndeliver airport programs successfully. During his career, Meredith served as\ndirector of construction support services for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta\nInternational Airport (ATL), where he oversaw an integrated construction\nmanagement and safety team that managed the implementation of ATL\u2019s $6.2\nbillion master plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in architecture from Spring\nGarden College and two master\u2019s degrees from the University of Florida, in\narchitecture and building construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/mike-smejkal-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23201\" width=\"175\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mike-smejkal-edit.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mike-smejkal-edit-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><figcaption><em>Mike Smejkal<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Smejkal joins as a senior project manager. He will be\nresponsible for helping to grow the firm\u2019s aviation practice and managing\nairport projects across the Southwest. Smejkal brings over two decades of\nexperience as both an airport owner and consultant working on airfield,\nlandside, and terminal projects from concept to closeout. Most recently,\nSmejkal served as Vice President of Planning and Engineering for the Tucson\nAirport Authority where he oversaw the planning, programming, EIS, design, and\nstart of construction for the $350 million Airfield Safety Enhancement Program\nas well as all other capital projects at both Tucson International and Ryan\nField airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree and master\u2019s degree in civil\nengineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a\nregistered professional engineer in multiple states, and is an Accredited\nAirport Executive of the American Association of Airport Executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/alex-mariz-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23202\" width=\"175\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/alex-mariz-edit.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/alex-mariz-edit-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><figcaption><em>Alex Mariz<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As a senior airport planner, Alex Mariz specializes in\nheliports, airfield geometry, and apron planning. He also advises on aircraft\nparking stands, aircraft bridging, and apron pavement markings, and has\nextensive experience in runway payload\/range analysis, airfield demand\/capacity\nanalysis, obstacle limitation surfaces, RET siting, airport and heliport site selection,\nand airport master plans focusing on the assessment and expansion needs of\nairside infrastructure. His projects span nine different countries\nand various active airfields including large international airports, military\nairports, and local general aviation facilities.
