Selected winners receive a scholarship providing them with the opportunity to attend the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and the Space Generation Congress (SGC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/USYD-Rocketry-Team-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23151\" width=\"376\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/USYD-Rocketry-Team-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/USYD-Rocketry-Team-edit-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 376px) 100vw, 376px\" \/><figcaption><em> Alison (center back) and the USYD Rocketry Team. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Having recently led the Sydney team to win the annual\nSpaceport America Cup competition, the AYAA recognized Ms. Lockley&#8217;s\ndemonstrated commitment to diversity and outreach, technical excellence,\ninitiative, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Lockley, who is in her final year studying a Bachelor of\nAeronautical Engineering and Bachelor of Science majoring in Space and Physics,\nhas led by example in her role as rocketry president and throughout her degree,\npromoting diversity among her peers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am honored to have been selected as one of AYAA&#8217;s\nYoung Australian Space Leaders of 2022. Space is for everyone \u2013 I look forward\nto representing our growing sector by promoting diversity alongside technical\nexcellence,&#8221; said Ms. Lockley, who is also interning at the Defense\nScience and Technology Group as a STEM Cadet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the scholarship, next month Ms. Lockley will\ntravel to Paris to attend the IAC. The conference is the world&#8217;s largest coming\ntogether of global space actors from various fields. With over 6,000\nparticipants each year, it showcases the latest space information and\ndevelopments in academia and industry. The SGC brings together 150 delegates\nfrom the United Nations, NASA and other world-leading space organizations to\nshare perspectives on global space issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AYAA 2022 President Bao-Thien Nguyen said: &#8220;We are\nproud to be able to provide young people in Australia with opportunities\notherwise inaccessible to them.
