The\nhonor highlights the important role flight instructors play as a foundation for\nthe safety of the entire national air transportation system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flight Instructor Hall of Fame inductee Catherine Cavagnaro\nis recognized as an expert on spins and aerobatics. She teaches pilots from the\nUS and other countries at Ace Aerobatic School in Sewanee, Tennessee. She\nwrites the \u201cFlying Smart\u201d column for AOPA Pilot magazine that addresses topics\nof safety, efficiency, proficiency, and the science of flight. Catherine holds\nATP and CFI-IA certificates. She also serves as a designated pilot examiner and\nFAA lead safety representative for the Nashville FSDO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The General Aviation Awards Committee recognized Catherine\nin 2018 as the FAA Safety Representative of the Year and the FAA Certificated\nFlight Instructor of the Year in 2020. In 2018, Catherine was inducted into the\nTennessee Aviation Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catherine speaks around the country and online for the\nFederal Aviation Administration, AOPA, American Bonanza Society, National\nAssociation of Flight Instructors, and other pilot organizations. She serves as\na regular guest on Aviation News Talk with Max Trescott as well as an expert\nfor Pilot Workshops\u2019 \u201cIFR Scenarios\u201d \u201cVFR Scenarios\u201d and other educational\nproducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catherine said, \u201cI am happiest when I use my technical\nbackground to understand the science of flight. It has been a privilege to help\npilots better understand their aircraft and fly them more safely. My sincere\nappreciation goes to Bill Kershner for helping me combine my loves of aviation\nand mathematics into a rewarding career, to AOPA for providing the platform,\nboth on stage and in print, to share my safety message with so many aviators,\nand to my sons Jack and Pete for joining me on so many flying adventures. Thank\nyou to the Flight Instructor Hall of Fame for making this amazing honor\npossible<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flight Instructor Hall of Fame inductee Ron Timmermans\nfulfilled a 40-year professional career as an architect and project manager\nbefore devoting himself to aviation on a full-time basis. He has been an\nindependent flight instructor since 1998. These days, he owns and manages\nAileRon T, LLC, and he flies a Beechcraft Bonanza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron holds ATP, CFI-IA, AGI-Instrument, and Remote Pilot\ncertificates. He is a NAFI Master CFI and Master Ground Instructor, a Gold Seal\nInstructor, and an American Bonanza Society Master Aviator. Ron is particularly\nwell-known in the Beech community due to his active involvement in the\nBeechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program (BPPP) and Bonanza\/Baron Pilot Training\n(BPT) program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron has served as a FAASTeam Lead Representative for the\nOrlando FSDO and the North Texas FSDO. He has presented at more than 30 WINGS\nsafety seminars and at aviation events throughout Florida and during EAA\nAirVenture. He has also been a frequent presenter at AOPA\u2019s Rusty Pilots\nSeminars, Safety Seminars, and Flight Instructor Refresher Courses. He is a\nfounding director of the WINGS Industry Network and has volunteered on the\nFAA\u2019s WINGS Usability Working Group in 2020-2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron\u2019s outreach activities include hosting NAFI MentorLIVE\nbroadcasts for flight instructors and hosting broadcasts for Florida Aviation\nNetwork live-streaming events to international audiences. He is a regular\npresenter at ABS national conventions, EAA AirVenture, Sun \u2018n Fun, and other\naviation events. Ron is a contributing member of AOPA, EAA, NAFI, SAFE, ABS,\nBPT, BPPP, and Quiet Birdmen. In 2021 he was named the National Certificated\nFlight Instructor of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron said, \u201cMy greatest professional fulfillment is to see a\npilot acquire new skills or refresh their existing skills to become ever safer\naviators \u2013 it\u2019s a blessing to be a CFI.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Niehaus, NAFI Director of Program Development, and\nadministrator of the Hall of Fame award program, commented, \u201cWorking to\ncontinue the tradition of inducting deserving flight instructors into the hall\nof fame is such a humbling project for me.
