Christopher C. Wright, Commissioner of the\nDepartment of Public Safety, at DPS Headquarters in Atlanta.&nbsp; TFC Lucas becomes one of 14 pilots within the\nGSP Aviation Division that boasts a fleet of 12 helicopters and six hangars\nstrategically placed throughout the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8557-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23095\" width=\"240\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8557-edit.jpg 591w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8557-edit-300x269.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><figcaption><em>Trooper Haley Lucas<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday we celebrate another milestone with the Department of\nPublic Safety.&nbsp; We are proud to recognize\nthe accomplishment of Trooper Haley Lucas on becoming the first female pilot in\nthe Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division.&nbsp;\nWe hope Trooper Lucas\u2019 accomplishment inspires other young women to\npursue their dreams,\u201d said Col. Wright.&nbsp;\nOn hand for the pinning was Lt. Colonel Stephanie L. Stallings, the first\nfemale Lt. Colonel in the history of the Department of Public Safety.&nbsp; \u201cI am extremely honored for TFC Lucas to be\nin the category of \u201chistoric firsts.\u201d&nbsp;\nShe is leading the way for other young women to follow and is a valuable\naddition to the GSP Aviation Division,\u201d said Lt. Col. Stallings.&nbsp; TFC Lucas is excited to join the Aviation\nDivision and committed to continuing her service to the citizens of Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GSP Aviation Division serves as the State of Georgia\u2019s\naeronautical search and rescue unit.&nbsp;\nTheir mission is to provide search and rescue capabilities, fire\nsuppression, and any other need that requires aerial support for all 159\nGeorgia counties and their respective municipalities.&nbsp; The unit also provides support to\nGEMA\/Homeland Security during natural disasters and state emergencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first ever female pilot in the history of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Aviation Division recently received her wings.&nbsp; TFC Haley Jo Lucas made history surrounded by members of the Command Staff, colleagues, and family members when she was presented with her wings by Col.
