{"id":23049,"date":"2022-08-07T01:41:38","date_gmt":"2022-08-07T01:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=23049"},"modified":"2022-08-07T12:24:29","modified_gmt":"2022-08-07T12:24:29","slug":"vernon-carter-named-doav-director-of-airport-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/virginia\/vernon-carter-named-doav-director-of-airport-services\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Vernon Carter Named DOAV Director of Airport Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) announced that Vernon Carter has been named Director, Airport Services Division, effective June 24th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter joined DOAV in 1991 as a civil engineer and has\nadvanced through the ranks to Manager of the Security and Facilities section\nand most recently Interim Division Director. He brings a wealth of knowledge of\nthe Commonwealth\u2019s aviation system and hopes to build on the success of the\ndepartment and carry on the strong tradition of Virginia aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI look forward to continuing the good work that has been\ndone in the past to get us where we are now,\u201d Carter said. \u201cThis agency and our\nstate have had great respect and admiration from our peers in other states. I\nhope I can continue to keep that tradition out there and to enhance it with the\nintroduction of new opportunities with technology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Virginia Department of Aviation Director Greg Campbell said,\n\u201cVernon brings understanding and knowledge of the division\u2019s various programs\nand responsibilities as well as a strong background of proven leadership,\nfiscal management experience and perspective to this role. Over the years, he\nhas developed a wealth of knowledge of the Commonwealth\u2019s aviation system and\nits stakeholders, which is important to the continuing growth of the division\nand agency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter began his career as a drafting technician with VDOT\nbefore moving to the private sector doing civil engineering drafting at\nTimmons. In later years, his section focused on design work and commercial site\ndevelopment. Carter was then looking for a new opportunity and saw aviation as\nsomething different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since joining the staff at DOAV, Carter has been involved in\nmany large scale projects at Virginia airports. He enjoys the variety of\ninvolvement in various aspects of aviation, including working with people,\nairports, environments and localities. With projects spread throughout the\nCommonwealth, Carter has the opportunity to see the different sites, areas and\nregions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Director for the Airport Services Division, Carter now\nhas oversight of the Planning and Environmental Services, Engineering and the\nSecurity and Facilities sections. His role shifts from the specifics of dealing\nwith the navigational aids and the security and maintenance program to all\naspects of what each section does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the introduction of drones and ultimately the Advanced\nAir Mobility (AAM) element rising up, the airport environment is changing.\nCarter is excited to see where it is going to take our aviation system and how\nhe can work to meet the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI look forward to finding a most beneficial way for any of that new technology to be integrated into the system that we currently have to make it even better,\u201d Carter said. \u201cTo be a part of what direction it\u2019s going to take has a great interest to me.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) announced that Vernon Carter has been named Director, Airport Services Division, effective June 24th.
