{"id":23012,"date":"2022-08-01T22:29:25","date_gmt":"2022-08-01T22:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=23012"},"modified":"2022-08-01T22:29:57","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T22:29:57","slug":"eaa-facts-and-figures-reflect-a-record-setting-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/wisconsin\/eaa-facts-and-figures-reflect-a-record-setting-year\/%20","title":{"rendered":"EAA Facts and Figures Reflect a Record-Setting Year for AirVenture 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Photos by Andrew Stevens<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) released facts\nand figures indicating that this year\u2019s AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI was a\nrecord-setting year. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EAA CEO and Chairman Jack Pelton said, \u201cWe introduced a\ntagline of \u2018Unlike Anything Else\u2019 for this year\u2019s AirVenture event and 2022\u2019s\nfly-in proved to truly be unlike anything else. We had seven days of nearly\nperfect weather, along with this year\u2019s programs and activities, which brought\nout people and airplanes in numbers that we haven\u2019t seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendance for the event was approximately 650,000 \u2013 A\nrecord total (previous mark: 642,000 in 2019) and 7 percent above 2021\u2019s\nattendance of 608,000.&nbsp; \u201cThere were\nseveral factors involved in the record attendance this year, in addition to the\ngreat weather,\u201d said Pelton. \u201cPrograms such as the 75th anniversary of the U.S.\nAir Force contributed to exciting aerial displays all week, and it was a joy to\nwelcome our international visitors back in full force for the first time since\n2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2558-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23014\" width=\"294\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2558-edit.jpg 595w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2558-edit-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The total aircraft reported was more than 10,000. This\nfigure includes those arriving at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh as well\nas other airports in east-central Wisconsin. At Wittman alone, there were\n18,684 aircraft operations in the 11-day period from July 21-31, which is an\naverage of approximately 121 takeoffs\/landings per hour when the airport is\nopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were 3,226 showplanes which included 1,375 registered\nin vintage aircraft parking, plus 1,156 homebuilt aircraft (up 6 percent over\n2021), 369 warbirds (up 5 percent from \u201921), 137 ultralights, 87 seaplanes, 77\naerobatic aircraft, and 25 rotorcraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sea-plane-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23015\" width=\"330\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sea-plane-edit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sea-plane-edit-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Other totals include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Camping: More than 12,000 sites in aircraft and\ndrive-in camping accounted for an estimated 40,000 visitors.<\/li><li>Volunteers: More than 5,000 contributing in\nexcess of 250,000 hours.<\/li><li>Commercial exhibitors: 803.<\/li><li>Forums, Workshops, and Presentations: More than\n1,400 sessions hosted throughout the week.<\/li><li>Social Media, Internet and Mobile: More than\n10.6 million people were reached by EAA\u2019s social media channels during\nAirVenture, with engagement of 1.1 million; More than 83,000 hours of viewing\nEAA video clips online also occurred during the event.<\/li><li>International guests: International visitors\nreturned in a big way in 2022, with attendees from 92 countries outside the\nU.S., just one behind the record total from 2019.<\/li><li>The Gathering shines: The EAA Aviation\nFoundation\u2019s annual event to support its aviation education programs attracted\nmore than 1,000 people and raised more than $2 million dollars that will be\nfocused on EAA\u2019s mission of growing participation in aviation.<\/li><li>Media: 797 media representatives on-site, from\nsix continents.<\/li><li>Economic impact*: $170 million for the five\ncounties in the Oshkosh region (Winnebago, Outagamie, Fond du Lac, Calumet, and\nBrown). * &#8211; based on 2017 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh economic impact study<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1476-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23016\" width=\"262\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1476-edit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1476-edit-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 will be held on July 24-30, 2023.\n\u201cWe\u2019re going to take a little time to give our staff and volunteers a\nwell-deserved rest, but there were numerous discussions at AirVenture 2022\nabout possibilities for next year,\u201d said Pelton. \u201cCertainly the 70th anniversary\nyear of EAA will be among the big considerations as we look forward to next\nyear\u2019s edition of The World\u2019s Greatest Aviation Celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photos by Andrew Stevens The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) released facts and figures indicating that this year\u2019s AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI was a record-setting year. &nbsp;
