Photo by Kenyah Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many airports across the country, both commercial and\ngeneral aviation, provide viewing areas to watch aircraft come and go. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Mesa, Arizona\u2019s Falcon Field to Raleigh-Durham\nInternational (RDU) in North Carolina, airplane lovers have a great place to\ncomfortably and safely watch the action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0043-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23005\" width=\"355\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0043-edit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0043-edit-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><figcaption><em>RDU&#8217;s viewing area includes a play area, seating and a picnic area. Photo\u00c2\u00a0by\u00c2\u00a0Kenyah\u00c2\u00a0Johnson.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mesa residents have a new place to delight in aviation\nwith the opening of a newly renovated aircraft viewing area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFalcon Field is proud to contribute this special viewing\narea to Mesa,\u201d said Airport Director Corinne Nystrom. \u201cIt is the latest in our\ncontinued efforts to bring the community, youth and families to the airport and\nfoster an interest in aviation so that future generations will want to pursue\ncareers in the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The viewing area is a capital improvement project funded by\nFalcon Field Airport. It is open daily and can be accessed directly from the\nterminal building parking lot. The sidewalk leading to the park is painted with\nauthentic runway markings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"234\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Falcon-Field-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23008\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Falcon-Field-photo.jpg 350w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Falcon-Field-photo-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><figcaption><em>Falcon Field Photo.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to existing free binoculars and historic\nphotographic murals, improvements include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A clear plexiglass view fence facing out to the\nairfield<\/li><li>Benches for seating in front of the view fence,\nas well as picnic tables and chairs<\/li><li>Colorful canvas shade sails<\/li><li>Two airplane-shaped seats for children<\/li><li>New grass turf area<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic photographic murals facing into the viewing\narea are among 16 murals that have been installed in recent years on buildings\nand facilities to commemorate Falcon Field\u2019s role as a training base for\nBritish Royal Air Force and U.S. Army Air Corps pilots during World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With seating, shade and turf areas, the viewing area is an\nideal spot to enjoy a picnic or bring children or visitors for a unique view of\nMesa. The park is a longtime favorite\nfor kids of all ages and RDU was pleased to welcome them back last August after\na temporary closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The park at RDU is free and no reservations are needed. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo above &#8211; RDU&#8217;s viewing area.
