Among activities to celebrate the\nmilestone year will be a presentation of the organization&#8217;s history during the\nAnnual MAMA Conference at the MGM Grand Hotel in Springfield, MA, October\n23-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAMA-50-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22830\" width=\"302\" height=\"111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAMA-50-edit.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAMA-50-edit-300x110.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>MAMA was created back in 1972 as successor to the former\nMassachusetts Aviation Trades Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founding members of MAMA included Charles &#8220;Chuck&#8221;\nOlsen and Robert Trainor of Worcester Airport, William &#8220;Pinky&#8221;\nPrentice and Airport Commission Chairman Mel Thomas of Plymouth Airport,\nIsidore Eisner of New Bedford Airport, Aviation Hall of Famer, Arnie Stymest of\nNorwood Airport and Dave Graham of the former Massachusetts Aeronautics\nCommission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still serving on the Board of Directors, Graham remembered\nthe early days, &#8220;Back in 1972, the old Massachusetts Aviation Trades\nAssociation (MATA) was nearing the end of its heyday. With the obvious need for\nstrong legislative support to keep our aviation and airport system viable, I\nencouraged then Worcester Airport Manager, Chuck Olsen and others to form a\nstrong lobbying group in the interest of supporting our Massachusetts Airport\nSystem. Thus, the Massachusetts Airport Management Association came into\nbeing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, MAMA remains a member-based organization dedicated to\npromoting and advocating for a healthy Massachusetts aviation industry through\nits thirty-seven public use airports. Members include airport managers,\nconsultants, and service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAMA President Matt Elia, the Assistant Airport Manager of\nCape Cod Gateway Airport said, &#8220;Our continuing focus is to promote\nadequate funding for the state&#8217;s airports, fair aviation legislation, job\ndevelopment and financial support for students in aviation management.&#8221; He\nwent on to thank the FAA Regional Office and the MassDOT Aeronautics Division\nfor their commitment to the development and safety of the Commonwealth&#8217;s public\nuse airports which annually provide $24B in total economic impact according to\na recent statewide study.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Massachusetts Airport Management Association (MAMA) is kicking off its 50th Anniversary this month.
