On Tuesday evening, teachers and industry leaders will meet\nat OU\u2019s National Weather Center to celebrate the growth of aviation and\naerospace education in the state, and to discuss ways to partner in the\nbuilding of programs that will ensure the growth of Oklahoma\u2019s aviation,\naerospace and defense industry workforce. Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell,\nNASA Astronaut and Commander John Herrington, and Aircraft Owners and Pilots\nAssociation (AOPA) President Mark Baker will address teachers and industry\nleaders to celebrate the growth of aviation and aerospace education in the\nstate. Pinnell will announce the state\u2019s top rank for the number of schools\napproved to teach the AOPA high school aviation curriculum starting this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) selected\nOklahoma as the first state outside of its home state of Maryland to host the\n\u201cYou Can Fly\u201d High School Aviation Curriculum professional development program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AOPA\u2019s You Can Fly initiative is all about building the\naviation community, getting more people into the skies, and keeping them there.\nThe centerpiece of You Can Fly is the unique and free High School STEM\nCurriculum, ensuring that all of aviation has a bright future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past school year, more than 12,000 students in 1,000\nclassrooms across the country, in all four grades, took the curriculum and\nlearned about exciting opportunities in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
