Last week, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts highlighted the\nNebraska State Patrol\u2019s (NSP) innovative drone program during a press\nconference held at NSP Headquarters.  Drone\noperators performed a live demo at the conclusion of the event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Nebraska State Patrol has continuously innovated\nthrough the years, finding new and improved ways to protect the public,\u201d said\nGov. Ricketts.  \u201cThe agency\u2019s drone\nprogram is a great example.  Whether\nhelping to investigate vehicle crashes or fight wildfires, the drones have\nproven to be major assets.  I commend the\nState Patrol for its creative use of technology to better serve Nebraskans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NSP\u2019s drone program launched a year ago.  In its first year, drone operators have\ninvestigated 98 crashes.  Using the\ndrones has reduced the average time of road closure for a crash investigation\nfrom 2.5 hours to less than an hour. \nCompleting the investigations more quickly limits the time motorists\nmust detour around a crash scene.  It\nalso enhances public safety by decreasing the likelihood of a secondary\ncrash.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to crash investigation, NSP has deployed its\ndrones to assist with wildfire response. \nAerial drones are able to pinpoint the hottest areas of a fire using\nthermal imaging.  This data helps\nemergency managers effectively dispatch fire teams to douse the flames.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur drone program and the troopers who serve as pilots have\nbeen tremendous assets over the past year,\u201d said Colonel John Bolduc,\nSuperintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. \n\u201cThis innovation is another example of how troopers and professional\nstaff are constantly looking for new ways to serve the public.  As we grow the program by training more\ntroopers as drone pilots, we\u2019re excited to see the heights it can reach as part\nof our continued mission to keep Nebraska safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this morning\u2019s press conference, Colonel Bolduc invited\nNebraskans to consider a career with the State Patrol.  Nineteen new recruits started training at\nNSP\u2019s Basic Recruit Camp 66 on Tuesday, July 5th.  This morning, applications opened for NSP\u2019s\n67th Basic Recruit Camp.  Prospective\ncandidates can visit NebraskaTroopers.com to learn more about the application\nprocess, the benefits of working for the NSP, and the job opportunities\navailable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
