Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Rutland Composite Squadron\n(VT-009) of the Vermont Wing, Civil Air Patrol experienced the thrill of\npiloting radio controlled (RC) model aircraft recently, courtesy of the Rutland\nCounty RC Flyers Club at the site of the former Fair Haven Municipal Airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur cadets got an exciting, educational opportunity to\nlearn about aircraft and how they fly, through some \u2018hands on\u201d experience\ncourtesy of the Rutland County RC Flyers Club here,\u201d said Capt Alvin Colvin, Commander\nof the Rutland Composite Squadron. \u201cMany of the same principles apply to\nkeeping planes in the air and moving in the direction you want them to go,\nwhether it\u2019s a small radio-controlled model plane or a general aviation or\nlarger plane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cadets learned a lot and had a great time in the\nprocess. Thanks to the RC Flyers Club for taking the time and sharing their\npassion for aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rutland County RC Flyers Club meets at the site of the\nformer Fair Haven Municipal Airport in Fair Haven.  Members of the Club fly a wide range of\naircraft from small, handmade kit planes with rubber band propulsion, to larger\nplanes with electric or gas-powered engines. \nCadets received hands on instruction with members to fly some of the\nlarger planes as well as a drone equipped with a camera and \u201cFirst-Person-View\u201d\nheadset.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rutland County RC Flyers member Peter Galligan said: \u201cAll\nthe cadets did a great job, especially considering this was a first-time\nexperience for most of them flying radio-controlled planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
