But these unmanned aircraft systems can\nbe dangerous if not operated properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s why the N.C. Department of Transportation is\nreminding everyone to follow drone safety guidelines to have a fun, and safe,\nsummer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn North Carolina, we are always seeking new ways to push\nthe boundaries of how we can use drones, but safety remains our first\npriority,&#8221; said NCDOT Director of Aviation Bobby Walston. \u201cDrones can be\nfun and useful, but they can also be dangerous if misused.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCDOT&#8217;s Division of Aviation has provided the following tips\nto help pilots make sure they&#8217;re flying safely and legally:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Always fly no more than 400 feet above ground\nlevel.<\/li><li>Always keep the drone within your visual line of\nsight.<\/li><li>Respect people&#8217;s privacy.<\/li><li>Avoid flying over events or crowds; never fly\ndirectly over people.<\/li><li>Never fly near or above prisons or airports.<\/li><li>Don&#8217;t fly at night without proper training and\nlights.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these guidelines, drone pilots are advised to\ntake the time to learn about the state and federal laws governing drones, as\nwell as local restrictions in their area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone interested in flying a drone in North Carolina for commercial or government operations must obtain a permit from the N.C. Division of Aviation. Before applying, prospective users must pass NCDOT&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/eaviation.ncdot.gov\/UAS\/Home\/Login\">UAS Knowledge Test<\/a>.
