Photo by John Gessner.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Moore County\nAirport Hangar Expansion Project was held in late May at the construction site\nfor the new aircraft hangars.&nbsp; State\nSenator Tom McInnis (R) of the 25th District, State Representative Jamie Boles\n(R) of the 52nd District, members of the Moore County Commissioners, Moore\nCounty Airport Authority and Senior Airport staff were on hand for the\nceremony.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, recently approved by the Moore County\nCommissioners and Airport Authority members, will include the construction of\ntwo separate buildings containing five 60\u2019 X 60\u2019 hangars, 12 T-hangars, storage\nunits and restroom facilities.&nbsp; The new\nhangars are scheduled to be completed in early 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to being moving forward with our new hangar\nexpansion, as an initiative of the airport\u2019s strategic plan,\u201d said Mike Jones,\nChairman of the Moore County Airport Authority.&nbsp;\n\u201cThe continued growth and enhancement of our services and facilities is\nour number one priority, and we are hopeful, with the required funding, to\nbuild two more sets of these hangars in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hangar expansion project was designed by Talbert &amp;\nBright of Wilmington, NC, who specialize in planning and engineering for\naviation solutions.&nbsp; The site development\nis being conducted by the Fred Smith Company of Raleigh, NC, and the actual\nhangar construction will be completed by Daniels &amp; Daniels Construction\nCompany of Goldsboro, NC.&nbsp; Funding for\nthe project infrastructure and site prep was provided by a State Transportation\nInfrastructure grant, and the actual building will be funded directly by the\nMoore County Airport.&nbsp; Once completed,\nthe total cost for the project will be close to $7 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe demand for new hangar spaces at our airport has been\nincredible,\u201d added Moore County Airport Manager Scotty Malta.&nbsp; \u201cWe currently have over 40 customers waiting\nfor hangar space for their aircraft, and the new hangars will accommodate up to\n25 planes, based on the size.&nbsp; With 100\nexisting base customers, we are working diligently to make sure our pilots and\nowners have the proper space desired for their aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An average 3600 square foot hangar can accommodate a single\nmedium-size jet or up to three single engine airplanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completion, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moorecountyairport.com\">Moore County Airport<\/a> will dedicate the new hangar building in honor of Barry Lerman, former Vice-Chairman of the Airport Authority, who passed away earlier this year.\u00c2\u00a0 Lerman was instrumental in getting the approvals and funding for the hangar expansion project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to McInnis and Boles, dignitaries and officials\ntaking part in the groundbreaking included: Chairman of the Moore County\nCommissioners Frank Quis; Vice-Chairman of the Moore County Commissioners\nCatherine Graham; Moore County Manager Wayne Vest; Airport Authority Chairman\nMike Jones; Airport Authority Member Tom McPherson; Airport Manager Scotty\nMalta;
