The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) has announced\nthe first recipient of the Fran\u00c3\u00a7ois Chavatte Award: Leo Knaapen of Bombardier.\nThis special recognition honors Mr. Knaapen\u2019s persistent advocacy and promotion\nof the international business aviation industry. Mr. Knaapen has worked for\nBombardier as Chief, Industry Affairs, and has served as representative to the\nIBAC Governing Board for Industry Partners. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IBAC Director General Kurt Edwards said, \u201cWe were excited to\nannounce Leo as the first recipient of the Fran\u00c3\u00a7ois Chavatte Award at our\nGoverning Board meeting following EBACE.\u201d Fran\u00c3\u00a7ois Chavatte dedicated his\ncareer to advancing the European business aviation industry. Chavatte was a\npilot on the first transatlantic business aircraft flight to land at Le Bourget\nAirport in 1961, sparking the growth of one of Europe\u2019s most prominent business\naviation airports. Chavatte\u2019s commitment to business aviation extended beyond\nhis dayjob. He co-founded in 1977 the organization that became known as EBAA\nand later served as its President and Chairman of the Board. He served also as\nEBAA\u2019s representative on the IBAC Governing Board.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chavatte passed away last year. In honor of his memory, IBAC\nestablished this award to recognize business aviation leaders who have gone\nabove and beyond to contribute to the industry\u2019s advancement and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edwards continued, \u201cIt was fitting to have this award go\nfirst to Leo, an extraordinary advocate for business aviation, for his tireless\nwork on behalf of the industry. He has\nbeen our friend and a strong IBAC supporter for many years. We are grateful to Bombardier, an IBAC Industry\nPartner, for supporting Leo\u2019s work with our association as well as with many\nother associations, committees, and coalitions that work to improve our\nindustry.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
