{"id":22370,"date":"2022-06-06T23:50:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T23:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=22370"},"modified":"2022-06-06T23:50:58","modified_gmt":"2022-06-06T23:50:58","slug":"17-million-announced-to-improve-eight-mississippi-airports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/mississippi\/17-million-announced-to-improve-eight-mississippi-airports\/%20","title":{"rendered":"$17 Million Announced to Improve Eight Mississippi Airports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Cindy Hyde-Smith,\nR-Miss., and U.S. Representative Michael Guest, R-Miss., announced the award of\nmore than $17 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants for\nimprovement work at eight Mississippi airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, which include\nentitlement and appropriated funds, represent the third round of funding for\nairfields in Mississippi. The lawmakers announced $16 million in second-round\nAIP funding in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cContinually improving aviation infrastructure is essential\nto maintaining the safety, capacity, and capability of airports in our state,\u201d\nsaid Wicker. \u201cThese investments in airports across Mississippi will help\npromote economic development, travel, and tourism jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAirport improvement grants provide pivotal funding that\nallows Mississippi communities to repair and improve their airport facilities\nwhether they\u2019re major facilities like Medgar Evers or smaller. These facilities\nrepresent assets that can support and grow economic development,\u201d Hyde-Smith\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAir travel and shipping are critical components of\nMississippi\u2019s economy to create robust centers of trade and growth. With these\ngrants, Mississippi will be able to expand our critical air infrastructure\nsystems to create an even more prosperous Mississippi,\u201d Guest said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The eight third-round AIP grants include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport,\nJackson \u2013 $13,596,966 for taxiway and taxiway lighting rehabilitation<\/li><li>Tunica Municipal Airport, Tunica \u2013 $1,150,000\nfor taxiway lighting and runway lighting reconstruct, and runway vertical\nvisual guidance system installation<\/li><li>George M.
