Vice President of Engineering and Flight Safety Bruce Hanke is\nretiring in July, with his duties being assumed by 21-year veteran GE Aviation\nengineering leader Doug Washburn, who recently joined Hartzell Propeller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bruce-Hanke.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22222\" width=\"179\" height=\"225\"\/><figcaption><em>Bruce Hanke<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBruce Hanke, with over four decades of engineering and\nleadership experience, leaves a legacy of many achievements during his 20 years\nat Hartzell,\u201d said Hartzell Propeller President JJ Frigge. \u201cBruce\u2019s\naccomplishments include development of composite-bladed propellers, light\nweight Bantam and Raptor series propeller systems, compact governors, in-house\npropeller deice and anti-ice system design and manufacturing, and improvements\nin the flight safety of Hartzell products,\u201d Frigge added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe very much appreciate Bruce\u2019s leadership and are looking\nforward to Doug Washburn\u2019s contributions in the years to come,\u201d Frigge said.\n\u201cDoug has a wealth of experience in the design, testing, and certification of\naviation components.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Washburn-866x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22223\" width=\"175\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Washburn-866x1024.jpg 866w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Washburn-254x300.jpg 254w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Doug-Washburn.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><figcaption><em>Doug Washburn<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Frigge added, \u201cHe spent his first years at GE in testing,\nwith a focus on instrumentation and airfoil vibration, so his background\nintegrates well with Hartzell\u2019s future objectives.\u201d Using an innovative blend\nof sophisticated engineering analytics, certification skills and world class\nmanufacturing technologies, Hartzell is working closely with many OEMs within\nemerging industries to fine-tune propeller applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have dedicated tens of thousands of engineering hours to\nelectric, hybrid and hydrogen powered aircraft since 2019. We continue to make\nadvancements in tooling, manufacturing processes, and lightweighting\nmaterials,\u201d said Frigge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washburn\u2019s experience at GE Aviation includes numerous\nengineering management roles with skills in mechanical design, analysis and\ntesting, organizational leadership, project management, fiber optic systems,\nand team building. He has a Master of Business Administration from Xavier\nUniversity, both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mechanical\nEngineering from The Ohio State University.
