Darren Harrison, the passenger who landed a plane after his\npilot lost consciousness, detailed the heroic experience in an exclusive\ninterview with TODAY\u2019s Savannah Guthrie. Harrison described his determination\nto survive for his wife and unborn child, and recalled thinking, \u201cI can\u2019t die\ntoday. Today is not my day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harrison described how he leapt into action despite not\nhaving any flight experience, saying, “Just common sense, I guess, being\non airplanes, because I knew if I went up and yanked that the airplane would\nstall. And I also knew at the rate we were going, we were probably going way\ntoo fast and it would rip the wings off the airplane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harrison also discussed whether he had any hesitations he\ncould land the aircraft, saying, “When I was flying and saw the state of\nFlorida, at that second, I knew, I\u2019m going to land there. I don\u2019t know what the\noutcome is going to be. I don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to happen. But I\u2019m going to\nhave to land this airplane, because there is no other option.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guthrie also spoke with Harrison\u2019s pregnant wife Brittany,\nwho described the moment she feared Darren was in danger after she received a\ncall from him ahead of his expected arrival time. \u201cA year ago in April, we lost\nmy brother-in-law while my sister was six months pregnant. And when I saw his\nname on the phone, I told myself, God, we can’t do this again. I don’t think I\ncan do it again. And thankfully we didn’t have to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
