The first round of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/2022_aip_grants\/\">2022 Airport Improvement Program<\/a> (AIP) grants will go to 441 airports located in big cities, small towns, and everywhere in between across 46 states, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. This funding is in addition to the $20 billion the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests in U.S. airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>View an <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.dot.gov\/t\/FAA\/views\/AirportImprovementProgramAIP\/AIP?%3Aembed=y&amp;%3AisGuestRedirectFromVizportal=y\">interactive map<\/a> with all the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In communities of all sizes, airports are vital to\nregional economies, sustaining jobs and getting people and goods where they\nneed to go,\u201d said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. \u201cThese Airport\nImprovement Program grants will help make airports better, safer, and more\naccessible, so they can better serve people in every community for decades to\ncome.\u201d&nbsp; \u201cWe\u2019re investing $608 million in\nairports across America so communities big and small can continue to safely and\nefficiently connect with the rest of the world,\u201d said FAA Associate\nAdministrator of Airports Shannetta Griffin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of grants that will go to enhance safety at\nairports across the U.S. include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$13.46 million for Minneapolis-St. Paul\nInternational\/Wold-Chamberlain, MN, to extend and improve the safety area, add\ntaxiway lighting, reconstruct the taxiway and apron, and replace the airport\nlighting vault.<\/li><li>$8.57 million for Morristown Municipal Airport\nin Morristown, NJ, to improve the Runway 5\/23 safety area to enhance airport\nsafety operations. This project consists of the installation of major drainage\nstructures crossing Runway 5\/23 and Taxiway A.<\/li><li>$7.54 million for Buffalo Niagara International\nAirport in Buffalo, NY, to rehabilitate 8,829 feet of the existing Runway 5\/23\npavement and lighting system and reconstruct 63 airfield guidance signs. These\nprojects will maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and lighting\nsystem and meet FAA standards.<\/li><li>$3.98 million for Jackson Municipal Airport in\nJackson, MN, to shift Runway 13\/31, construct a parallel taxiway, and construct\nthe new runway lighting system. These projects mitigate the safety risks of\nairplanes having to back-taxi on an active runway.<\/li><li>$18.8 million to Pago Pago International Airport\nin American Samoa to rehabilitate a runway.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>General aviation airports will receive more than half of\nthese first grants, with 272 grants in amounts ranging from $38,680 to more\nthan $4.6 million. General aviation airports are vital to communities and the\naviation industry. They are where pilots are trained, emergency medical\nservices take off and land, and rural communities are connected to daily\ncommerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grants to general aviation and community-serving airports\ninclude: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$4.15 million for the new Gallatin County\nAirport in Sparta, KY, to fund the final phase of construction of this new\ngeneral aviation airport to meet current demand. The grant will construct a new\ntaxiway, install an airfield lighting vault, an airport rotating beacon, and\nairfield lighting.<\/li><li>$1.9 million for Robert (Bob) Curtis Memorial\nAirport in Noorvik, AK, to rehabilitate a runway.<\/li><li>Two grants totaling more than $1.29 million for\nLaughlin\/Bullhead International Airport in Bullhead City, AZ, to renovate the\nexisting passenger terminal public restrooms within the existing footprint and\nreconstruct airfield guidance signs and the taxiway. Renovations will comply\nwith Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.<\/li><li>A $666,000 grant to Methow Valley State Airport\nin Winthrop, WA, to construct a heliport\/helipad.<\/li><li>Four grants of $434,550 each to Grayling,\nHuslia, Bob Baker Memorial in Kiana, and Koyukuk airports in AK to purchase\nsnow removal equipment.<\/li><li>A $36,000 grant to Devils Lake Regional Airport\nand a $45,000 grant to Jamestown Regional Airport, both in North Dakota, to\npurchase aircraft rescue fire fighting vehicles and safety equipment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other grant awards fund projects that demonstrate the\nBiden-Harris Administration\u2019s commitment to equity and environmental\nsustainability include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$1 million for Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional\nAirport in Gunnison, CO, to rehabilitate the existing terminal building\nrestrooms, elevators, escalators, concession areas, security screening, and\nholding areas to meet current building codes and comply with ADA requirements.<\/li><li>$1.6 million for Montrose Regional Airport in\nMontrose, CO, to expand its existing terminal building to comply with ADA\nrequirements. This project also rehabilitates the existing terminal building\nrestrooms, elevators, escalators, and security holding area.<\/li><li>$3.5 million for Alexandria International\nAirport in Alexandria, LA, to purchase 15 homes and relocate 40 residents\nadversely impacted by aircraft noise.
