{"id":22082,"date":"2022-05-15T21:40:46","date_gmt":"2022-05-15T21:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=22082"},"modified":"2022-05-15T21:40:48","modified_gmt":"2022-05-15T21:40:48","slug":"natca-mourns-loss-of-veteran-miami-tower-controller-and-union-facility-representative-narciso-torres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/florida\/natca-mourns-loss-of-veteran-miami-tower-controller-and-union-facility-representative-narciso-torres\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NATCA Mourns Loss of Veteran Miami Tower Controller and Union Facility Representative Narciso Torres"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) is\nshocked and extremely saddened to report the passing of veteran Miami Airport\nTraffic Control Tower (ATCT, MIA) controller and devoted Union member Narciso\nTorres, who was aboard a single-engine Cessna 172 that crash-landed Saturday on\nthe Haulover Inlet Bridge north of Miami Beach, Fla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Narciso-Torres-NATCA-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22083\" width=\"277\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Narciso-Torres-NATCA-edit.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Narciso-Torres-NATCA-edit-256x300.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Torres served as NATCA\u2019s local facility representative at\nMIA since Oct. 1, 2019, and worked as an air traffic controller at MIA since\nJune 2015. He began his FAA career in May 2008 at Orlando International ATCT\n(MCO), transferred to New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON, N90)\nfor one year in 2010, and returned to MCO in July 2011, where he served as the\nNATCA facility representative from January 2013 to May 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a terrible tragedy that has sent shock waves\nthroughout our NATCA family,\u201d NATCA President Rich Santa said. \u201cOur hearts go\nout to Narciso\u2019s wife, Jennifer, his entire family, and the many fellow Union\nbrothers and sisters that loved him so much and are now dealing with an\nunspeakable loss. Narciso touched so many people with his warmth and kindness,\nboth within NATCA, in the facilities he worked, and in every interaction he\nhad. He gave so much of his time to representing his members at MIA, and before\nthat at MCO, and worked extremely hard on behalf of this Union to improve the\nworking conditions of all controllers and the safety of the National Airspace\nSystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike so many thousands of our members, Narciso had such a\ndeep love of all things aviation, and of flying, as evidenced by this flight on\na beautiful South Florida day where he was doing what he loved. This loss hurts\nso deeply.
