Research will focus on three areas:\nelectromagnetic compatibility, detect and avoid classifications, and\ncybersecurity oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The universities receiving grants are University of North\nDakota, University of Kansas, Drexel University, The Ohio State University,\nEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Mississippi State University and Oregon\nState University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis funding and our ongoing partnerships with these\nuniversities will allow the FAA to safely integrate the airspace that has a\ngrowing number of diverse aircraft users,\u201d said FAA Acting Administrator Billy\nNolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research initiatives and grant awardees include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Evaluate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Electromagnetic Compatibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research will assess the risks, identify drone design\nvulnerabilities, identify material and procedural mitigations, and propose\nguidance for safer electromagnetic compatibility with emitted and static\nfields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>University of North Dakota $325,042<\/li><li>University of Kansas $325,000<\/li><li>Drexel University $325,830<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Investigate Detect and Avoid Track Classification and Filtering<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research will provide proposed metrics, guidance, and test methods to assess the effects of false or misleading information on detect and avoid capabilities. The findings will support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/uas\/programs_partnerships\/beyond\/\">Beyond Visual Line of Sight<\/a> operations.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Ohio State University $732,441<\/li><li>Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University $371,000<\/li><li>Mississippi State University $330,000<\/li><li>University of North Dakota $80,000<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Illustrate the Need for UAS Cybersecurity Oversight and Risk Management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research will address UAS Cybersecurity Oversight and\nRisk Management as it pertains to the National Airspace System and other FAA\nsystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>University of Kansas $651,982<\/li><li>Oregon State University $609,226<\/li><li>Drexel University $608,783&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s announcement is the second round of Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.assureuas.org\/\">ASSURE<\/a>) grants, which brings the total of 15 grants valued at $18.3 million for Fiscal Year 2022.The ASSURE Center of Excellence is one of six that the agency has established to help advance technology and educate the next generation of aviation professionals.
