{"id":21710,"date":"2022-04-17T13:49:16","date_gmt":"2022-04-17T13:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=21710"},"modified":"2022-04-17T13:49:18","modified_gmt":"2022-04-17T13:49:18","slug":"samarkand-international-airport-celebrates-grand-opening-of-new-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/samarkand-international-airport-celebrates-grand-opening-of-new-terminal\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Samarkand International Airport Celebrates Grand Opening of New Terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Air Marakanda, operator of the newly expanded and\nredeveloped Samarkand International Airport, announced the grand opening of the\nairport\u2019s new terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 250 people participated in the opening ceremony,\nincluding the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan\nAchilbay Ramatov, Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov, Khokim of the\nSamarkand Region Erkinjon Turdimov, and Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan\nAirports Rano Juraeva. Deputy General Director of Operations at Air Marakanda,\nHilmi Yilmaz, delivered a solemn speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The public-private partnership responsible for the $80\nmillion project involves Air Marakanda and state partner Uzbekistan Airports\nJCS. The construction work was carried out by leading Uzbekistan EPC company\nEnter Engineering based on an architectural design by the Turkish design and\nengineering company Kiklop Construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Air Marakanda\u2019s Deputy General Director of Operations, Hilmi\nYilmaz, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the entire staff of Air Marakanda, I thank our\ngovernment and all partners, without whom the implementation of such a\nlarge-scale project would have been impossible. I am certain Samarkand\nInternational Airport, as one of the region\u2019s most important infrastructure\nfacilities, will stimulate economic growth and business development in the\nadjacent areas, creating jobs for the local population and benefit society as a\nwhole. An airport is the first thing you see when you arrive in a country and\nthe last thing you see when you leave. Samarkand International Airport will\nbecome a \u2018visiting card\u2019 of Uzbekistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serving visitors to Uzbekistan\u2019s most frequented tourist\nsites in, and around, historic Silk Road city Samarkand &#8211; the modern facility\nwill be able to handle triple the number of passengers than it could\npreviously. Independent research by market research firm, Lufthansa Consulting,\nforecasts an increase in annual passenger traffic from 480,000 to two million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon completion, the number of regular flights will increase\nfrom 40 to 120 per week, with a total of 24 new aircraft parking spaces\navailable. Having served only five destinations in 2019, Air Marakanda\u2019s route\ndevelopment plan aims to increase destinations to 30 by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From August 1, 2020, all domestic airports of Uzbekistan\nintroduced the Open Skies regime for at least two years with the possibility of\nextension. This will also apply at Samarkand airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International standard modernizations include easy access\nfor passenger with limited mobility, 29 check-in desks, eight boarding gates,\nfour airstairs, ten passport control booths, six E-gates for departing\npassengers, and 15 passport control booths for arriving passengers. 3.1 km of\nrunway were added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Air Marakanda, operator of the newly expanded and redeveloped Samarkand International Airport, announced the grand opening of the airport\u2019s new terminal.
