Held\nat American Airlines Hangar 80, located at the airline\u2019s Base Maintenance\nfacility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Women in Aviation International event focuses\non introducing young girls to the exciting field of aviation, educating them on\ncareer opportunities and bringing awareness to the many diverse fields within\nthe industry \u2014 all areas American is keenly focused on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-simulator-041122-1200x628-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21651\" width=\"284\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-simulator-041122-1200x628-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-simulator-041122-1200x628-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-simulator-041122-1200x628.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 284px) 100vw, 284px\" \/><figcaption><em> Girls had the chance to engage in hands-on learning about aviation including piloting, the physics of flight, flight safety, aviation medicine and air traffic control. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmerican Airlines has so many great opportunities to offer\nthe next generation of aviation professionals,\u201d said Stacey Brown, Director of\nAircraft Overhaul at Tulsa. \u201cIt\u2019s important we capture these young women early\nso they can see first-hand the many career opportunities that await them. The\nCity of Tulsa has long played a critical role in American\u2019s success, and we\u2019re\nexcited to connect with these impressive and aspiring aviation professionals from\nthis important community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 100 Tulsa-area girls attended the inaugural event\nand had the opportunity to hear from aviation leaders, including Brown, who\nreflected on why it\u2019s important to her that she be involved in such events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to give back,\u201d she said. \u201cI didn\u2019t have\nany role models when I was looking at career options, so I really enjoy giving\nthese girls a chance to hear what a great career this could be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The girls had a chance to engage in hands-on learning about\naviation including piloting, the physics of flight, flight safety, aviation\nmedicine and air traffic control. Addison Gravely, a 9-year-old Tulsa native,\ndreams of being a pilot and even inspired her dad to get his own pilot\u2019s\nlicense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy favorite part of the event is getting to learn about all\nthe different parts of aviation and seeing the different types of planes,\u201d\nAddison said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor Jackson, a Planning Supervisor at American\u2019s Tulsa\nfacility, emphasizes why it\u2019s important girls like Addison feel encouraged and\nsupported to explore a career in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-group-shot-041122-1200x628-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-group-shot-041122-1200x628-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-group-shot-041122-1200x628-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newsroom-Thumbnail-Girls-Aviation-Day-group-shot-041122-1200x628.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption> <em> More than 100 young women attended the Girls in Aviation Day event to learn about the exciting field of aviation. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs women, we often look at aviation and think that it\u2019s a\nmale-dominated industry, it\u2019s not attainable,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cEvents like this\nshow young girls that a career in aviation is not only attainable, but they\nalso get to talk to and interact with other female aviation leaders who they\ncan relate to. I personally get involved because I want to inspire younger\npeople, especially younger girls, to enter the field and become leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>American is proud to partner with OSU-Tulsa to continue\ncreating awareness about careers in aviation and inspire the next generation of\nfemale leaders in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese types of events are so important because they help\nshow young girls all the things that they can do with a career in aviation,\u201d\nsaid Emma Keller, Graduate Assistant at OSU-Tulsa Aviation. \u201cWe were so excited\nto partner with American Airlines this year and look forward to growing this\nevent to reach more young girls in the years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Airlines and Oklahoma State University-Tulsa (OSU) joined together to host the first Girls in Aviation Day this past weekend.
