In support of the national effort to reduce\nlead emissions from piston-engine aircraft, the City of Santa Monica-owned\nairport is the first in the region to offer a viable fuel replacement option\nfor 100LL aviation gasoline (avgas) at commercially competitive prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Swift-Fuel-SMO-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21572\" width=\"323\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Swift-Fuel-SMO-edit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Swift-Fuel-SMO-edit-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><figcaption><em>Photo furnished by Aeroplex Group Partners.  <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Located at the southwest corner of the airfield, the\nself-serve station provides aircraft users, the neighboring community and the\nnation\u2019s aviation industry, a model for introducing a dedicated unleaded\naviation gasoline alternative. Swift UL94, satisfies the requirements for over\n125,000 aircraft, or 66% of the U.S. piston fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to spearhead an effort that will not only\nenable the Santa Monica Airport to provide environmentally safe aviation fuel\nfor piston aircraft but will also encourage other California airports to\ncollaborate on opportunities to create similar supply options,\u201d, said Aeroplex\nGroup Partner\u2019s President and CEO Curt Castagna. \u201cWith more than 40 years of\nexperience developing airport and aviation facilities across the nation, our\nteam partnered with a committed City, Airport staff and Swift Fuels, to\nencourage the adoption of viable and operationally safe fuel replacement\nalternatives. This serves as a first step in an evolutionary process to deploy\na 100% \u201cunleaded\u201d alternative drop-in replacement aviation gasoline that will\neliminate the need for toxic lead in avgas altogether.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2022, the nation\u2019s aviation industry trade\nassociations established the EAGLE (Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions)\ninitiative that will ban leaded fuel by 2030. As this initiative continues to\nwork in partnership with government regulators, industry leaders, and fuel\nproducers and distributors, Aeroplex and the City of Santa Monica will continue\nto take a proactive leadership approach.
