Don Young (R-AK) for his steadfast service\nto his country, and his passionate commitment to promoting aviation, upon news\nof the long-tenured congressman\u2019s passing March 18 at age 88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Don-Young-headshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21444\" width=\"308\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Don-Young-headshot.jpg 782w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Don-Young-headshot-300x273.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><figcaption><em>Rep. Don Young<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon Young was a vigorous advocate for our nation\u2019s aviation\nindustry throughout his five decades in Congress, including through his support\nfor multiple initiatives to bolster aviation infrastructure and to build our\nindustry\u2019s next-generation workforce,\u201d Bolen said. \u201cWe join with the\ncongressman\u2019s family, friends and peers in mourning his loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last May, Young joined with House T&amp;I Committee Aviation\nSubcommittee Chairman Rick Larsen (D-2-WA) and Rep. Angie Craig (D-2-MN) to\nreintroduce the NBAA-supported measure, which was signed into law by President\nJoe Biden in November 2021 as part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment\nand Jobs Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young served as chairman of the House Committee on\nTransportation and Infrastructure from 2001-2007 and was a longtime member of\nthe committee\u2019s aviation subcommittee. Among Young\u2019s other accomplishments was\nsecuring passage of H.R. 2115, the \u201cVision 100 \u2013 The Century of Aviation\nReauthorization Act,\u201d which was signed into law in December 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NATA President &amp; CEO Timothy Obitts said Representative\nYoung was committed to supporting the future of our industry, most recently by\nintroducing the Promoting Service in Transportation Act, legislation\nauthorizing a public service campaign to promote transportation job\nopportunities that was included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. \u201cAs\nAlaska\u2019s at-large representative for almost fifty years, Congressman Young knew\nwell the vital role that general aviation plays in rural communities and served\nas a powerful advocate for the aviation industry\u2019s small businesses. NATA and its\nmembers send our heartfelt condolences to Representative Young\u2019s family,\nfriends, and colleagues in the House, where he was recognized for his\ndedication and bipartisan work on behalf of our nation\u2019s transportation\ninfrastructure.
