Pictured with Shelton is State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies. <\/em><\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandra Shelton started her service with the State of\nOklahoma when she was hired by the Insurance Department in 1996. She began her\ncareer in state policy in 1997 as a legislative assistant for the Oklahoma\nHouse of Representatives for State Representative Ray McCarter, (D) Marlow.\nDuring her eight-year tenure in the House, she clerked for Representatives Bill\nNations, Clay Pope, Wallace Collins, Mike Ervin, and Congressman Dan Boren.\nRecruited by the Senate Republican Leadership in 2004 by then Freshman Senator\nDon Barrington, she also served as an assistant to Senator Eddie Fields,\nSenator Dan Newberry, and Senator Patrick Anderson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shelton joined the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission in April\n2016 as the Aviation Education Coordinator &amp; Government Affairs Liaison.\nSoon after joining she assumed the communication responsibilities for the\nagency and from there the organization\u2019s advocacy and promotional efforts took\nto the skies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the day Sandra started at the Commission she helped\nthe organization with developing a vision for the future, bringing new ideas\nand energy to the table for how we could enhance and support the state\u2019s\naviation and aerospace industry,\u201d said State Director of Aeronautics Grayson\nArdies.&nbsp; \u201cI saw the potential that Sandra\nhad to make her mark on aviation in Oklahoma and she was able to achieve her\ngoals when she assisted in the creation of the first-in-the-nation Oklahoma\nWomen in Aviation and Aerospace Day in state statute,\u201d Ardies continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shelton has advocated for and successfully passed over a\ndozen pieces of aviation and aerospace legislation on behalf of the Commission\nduring her six-year tenure. \u201cSandra has become so emersed and excited about\nthis industry that she took to the skies for her first training flight in late\n2021 where she is on the way to becoming a private pilot,\u201d Ardies said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At its meeting on Wednesday, March 9, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission recognized Sandra Shelton for her 25 years of service to the State of Oklahoma by presenting her with a commendation from Governor Kevin Stitt and state service pin.
