{"id":21410,"date":"2022-03-22T00:13:27","date_gmt":"2022-03-22T00:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=21410"},"modified":"2022-03-22T00:13:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T00:13:29","slug":"final-women-in-aviation-advisory-board-meeting-held","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aviation-education\/final-women-in-aviation-advisory-board-meeting-held\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Final Women in Aviation Advisory Board Meeting Held"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/regulations_policies\/rulemaking\/committees\/documents\/index.cfm\/committee\/browse\/committeeID\/817\">Women in Aviation Advisory Board<\/a> held its final meeting today and voted unanimously to submit its report to the FAA Administrator at the meeting. The FAA will post the report on its website later this week after the board transmits it to the agency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA will review the report and consider the strategies\nand recommendations outlined to support its efforts in encouraging women to\napply their specialized skills in the aviation field. The recommendations are\nalso expected to be used to help the agency encourage students to consider\ncareers in aviation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to thank all of you for your service over these long\nmonths. We so appreciate your leadership,\u201d said Deputy Secretary Polly\nTrottenberg. \u201cI am truly excited to see the incredible ideas this panel is\ngoing to come up with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAA Administrator Steve Dickson also recognized the Board\u2019s\nwork at today\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe steps that you have taken to ensure girls and women can\nenjoy the opportunities that are before us to join all of us in the aerospace\nindustry are invaluable,\u201d said Administrator Dickson. \u201cThe number of women in\naerospace and aviation is steadily growing, and this is the most exciting time\nwe\u2019ve seen in aerospace in generations. We hope that the work we\u2019re doing\ntogether will help to enable women to be able to take advantage of those opportunities.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, Congress directed the FAA to establish a Women in Aviation Advisory Board to develop and provide independent recommendations and strategies to address the shortage of women and girls in aviation. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/regulations_policies\/rulemaking\/committees\/documents\/media\/Membership%20List%20-%20WIAAB%20(as%20of%20December%201%202021).pdf\">Board\u2019s members<\/a> included thirty women from across industry and academia. Heather Wilson, president of the University of Texas at El Paso, served as the board\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecent decades have seen changes for women \u2013 a majority of\ngraduates from college, doctors and lawyers are now women &#8212; but aviation has\nlargely not changed. Congress asked this committee to come together and explore\nwhy that is so, and to make recommendations on how to change it,\u201d said Board\nChair Dr. Heather Wilson. \u201cOver nearly two years, this group of thirty women\nleaders from across the country with collectively hundreds of years of\nexperience in the aviation industry have come together to do this work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting can be viewed on the FAA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tD98GSKN4lk\">YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Women in Aviation Advisory Board held its final meeting today and voted unanimously to submit its report to the FAA Administrator at the meeting.
