Amy graduated from Texas\nChristian University in 1983 with a B.S. in Geology, completed her Masters in\nGeology at Oregon State University in 1987, and her Ph.D. in Education in 2005\nfrom Oregon State University. Amy has dedicated over three decades of her life\nto advancing aviation education with 3,000+ hours of instruction time given in\naircraft and an astounding 15,000+ hours of ground instruction given. She\nspecializes in tailwheel and mountain flying instruction. In the summers when\nnot teaching at the University Amy goes home to central Idaho where she has\nbeen teaching backcountry flying for 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dr-Amy-Hoover.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21351\" width=\"165\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dr-Amy-Hoover.jpg 337w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dr-Amy-Hoover-197x300.jpg 197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 165px) 100vw, 165px\" \/><figcaption><em>Dr. Amy Hoover<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Amy was the primary author of the ASA book\n\u201cMountain, Canyon, and Backcountry Flying\u201d which has sold over 5,000 copies to\ndate. Rod Machado, who wrote the book\u2019s foreword put it simply \u201cAll pilots\nshould own a copy of this wonderful book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amy has served in many professional capacities in her\ncareer. She is a Full Professor in the Aviation Department at Central\nWashington University, where she serves as a flight check instructor and\nassistant chief ground instructor. Amy has mentored new pilots through the\nInternational 99s, Women in Aviation, ALPA ACE, Alpha Eta Rho, and the FAA\u2019s\nACE Academy.
